Stocking fish fingerlings in early spring requires care; mastering the method is key

Fingerling quality For fingerlings of the same species and age, the specifications should be uniform, with little difference in body length and body weight, thick back muscle, bright color, intact scales and fin rays, normal activity, and strong upstream-swimming ability. After being taken out of the water and placed in a basin, the gill cover should not open, the tail should not bend, and the fish should keep jumping, with no wounds or parasites on the body surface. Fingerling disinfection Some farmers do not disinfect fingerlings at all when stocking them, resulting in a high disease rate, and drug treatment is not ideal. In fact, as long as fingerling disinfection is done well, it often achieves twice the result with half the effort in preventing fish diseases. When disinfecting fingerlings, pay attention to the following 3 points: 1. The medicine should be prepared and used immediately; use clean water to prepare it, avoid fertilized water, and avoid direct sunlight when soaking the fingerlings in the medicinal solution. 2. The drug dosage should be accurate, avoiding insufficient dosage or overdose. 3. The soaking time should be appropriate. If the fingerlings show signs of being unable to endure it, immediately add water or put the fingerlings into another container.

Stocking method and time Before fingerlings are put into the pond, it is first necessary to strictly check whether the effect of the pond-clearing drug has passed. Method: Place a small cage net in the fish pond to be stocked, put in a few dozen test fish, and observe for one night to see whether their activity and floating-head condition are abnormal. If symptoms such as restlessness, floating-head struggling, and darting around appear, it means there is still residue of the pond-clearing drug, and they must not be stocked immediately; only after the drug has completely disappeared can fish be released. In addition, before the fingerlings are put into the pond, a fine-mesh net must be used to pull through the whole pond 1~2 times to remove harmful insects, frog eggs, wild miscellaneous fish, and other organisms that may harm the fingerlings, ensuring the safety of the stocked fingerlings. It is best to choose noon on consecutive sunny days to stock fingerlings; at this time the fingerlings adapt fastest and the survival rate is also the highest. On windy days, fingerlings should be stocked at the windward side of the fish pond, so as to avoid being blown to the pond edge and dying when stocked at the leeward side.

Pay attention to the water temperature difference when entering the pond When fingerlings are put into the pond, note that the temperature difference between the water holding the fingerlings and the pond water must not exceed 3°C. If the temperature difference is too large, adjust the water temperature in the container to bring it close to the pond water temperature. For fingerlings transported in oxygen-filled plastic bags, they need "seedling acclimation" treatment when entering the pond. When fingerlings are put into the pond, they should also be counted accurately.
