What are the types of pig parasites? A detailed explanation of common types
The main parasites harmful to pigs can be broadly divided into the following three categories from the perspective of economic impact and degree of harm:
(1) Those that are not very serious but are widespread. These parasites include pig Cysticercus tenuicollis, Strongyloides ransomi in piglets, Trichuris suis (pig whipworm), Gnathostoma hispidum, Oesophagostomum dentatum (pig nodular worm), Ascarops strongylina (pig spiral stomach worm), Macracanthorhynchus hirudinaceus, pig lice, Eimeria suis, etc.
(2) Those that are seriously harmful and widespread. These parasites include Fasciolopsis buski, Ascaris suum, pig Metastrongylus (pig lungworm), Stephanurus dentatus (pig kidney worm), pig sarcoptic mange (pig scabies), etc.
(3) Those found from time to time. These parasites include Microphallus minus, Schistosoma japonicum, Metorchis sinensis, Fasciola hepatica, pig cysticercus, sparganum, Trichinella spiralis, pig coccidia, Balantidium coli in pigs, pig Demodex, etc.
Overall, the above classification is not necessarily entirely reasonable. For example, Strongyloides ransomi in piglets is quite serious and widespread in areas where feeding and management are extremely extensive.
