What are the control methods for stem rot in Japanese euonymus?

Rot is a major disease that Japanese euonymus is prone to, and in severe cases it can cause the entire plant to die. Affected by the special climate of winter and spring, Japanese euonymus does not green up well, and some dead branches appear, weakening the growth vigor of the euonymus and thereby reducing the plant's disease resistance. Some Japanese euonymus is prone to stem rot. One- and two-year-old branches are especially the most severely affected: in the early stage the stem turns brown, the leaves lose their green color, the tender shoots droop, and the leaves do not fall off; in the later stage the affected part of the stem turns black, the cortex shrinks, the inner bark tissue rots, and many tiny black

Affected by the special climate of winter and spring, Japanese euonymus does not green up well, and some dead branches appear, weakening the growth vigor of the euonymus and thereby reducing the plant's disease resistance. Some Japanese euonymus is prone to stem rot. One- and two-year-old branches are especially the most severely affected: in the early stage the stem turns brown, the leaves lose their green color, the tender shoots droop, and the leaves do not fall off; in the later stage the affected part of the stem turns black, the cortex shrinks, the inner bark tissue rots, and many tiny black sclerotia are produced; at the same time the affected area develops rapidly, and the pathogen invades the xylem, causing the entire plant to die.

1. Causes of the disease The pathogen causing stem rot in Japanese euonymus is a fungus of the class Deuteromycetes, and this pathogen normally lives saprophytically in the soil. In summer the air temperature rises, and the soil temperature rises accordingly, and the pathogen invades the stem of the seedlings and causes damage. It is especially common in high-temperature and low-lying areas.

2. Control measures

1. Strengthen the maintenance and management of the seedlings to improve their own disease resistance.

2. Use fully decomposed farmyard manure as base fertilizer, which can reduce the incidence of disease in the seedlings.

3. In summer, use cooling measures such as building shade frames for young seedlings; for larger seedlings, methods such as planting ground cover plants or covering the ground with grass can be used to destroy the environmental conditions in which the pathogen occurs.

4. Promptly prune out diseased branches and burn them in a centralized manner.

5. When the number of diseased seedlings is small, use a brush to apply 50-fold 50% carbendazim solution or 50-fold 25% propiconazole EC (propiconazole) to the stem at the early stage of the disease. When the number of seedlings is large or the disease is at its peak, spray the seedlings generally with 800 to 1000 times dilution of Bi jun sha, or 2000-2500 times dilution of Pen ke jun. Both methods are applied once every 7 days, for 2 to 3 consecutive times, and can play a preventive and therapeutic role.
