Symptoms and Prevention and Treatment Methods of Turtle Furunculosis

Livestock Farming 0 views
[Cause] The pathogen is Aeromonas hydrophila subsp. punctata, which often exists in water, on turtle skin, in the intestines, and other places. When the water environment is good, turtles are carriers of the bacteria. Once the environment is contaminated and the turtle's body is injured, the bacteria multiply in large numbers and can very easily cause the turtle to become ill. [Symptoms] There are one or several white furuncles the size of soybeans on the neck and limbs. When squeezed around with the hand, yellow and white bean-dregs-like contents come out. In the early stage, sick turtles can still eat, then gradually eat less, and in severe cases stop eating and respond slowly. They generally die within 2 to 3 weeks.

[Symptoms]

There are one or several white furuncles the size of soybeans on the neck and limbs. When squeezed around with the hand, yellow and white bean-dregs-like contents come out. In the early stage, sick turtles can still eat, then gradually eat less, and in severe cases stop eating and respond slowly. They generally die within 2 to 3 weeks.

[Prevention and Treatment Methods]

First, isolate and raise the turtle. Thoroughly squeeze out the contents of the lesion, apply sulfa tincture, dust with oxytetracycline powder, and then insert a cotton ball (with oxytetracycline or chlortetracycline eye ointment on the cotton ball) into the hole. If the turtle is an aquatic species, it can be placed in shallow water. Turtles that have stopped eating should be force-fed food, and antibiotic drugs should be hidden in the food.
