What are the simple methods for caponizing a rooster?
One is the cautery caponization technique. First, restrain the rooster, pluck the feathers around the glandular fat point, use scissors to trim the protruding part of the glandular fat flat, then use a lit incense stick or a red-hot round iron wire to apply heat stimulation precisely to the glandular fat point. The stimulation method is rhythmic intermittent stimulation, that is, stimulate once, immediately withdraw, stimulate again, withdraw again, and repeat this until the abdominal fat point no longer bleeds and a scorched skin appears.
The other is the traditional Chinese medicine feeding caponization technique. Use the traditional Chinese medicines Wuweizi (Schisandra chinensis) and white pepper to administer orally to the rooster. For a rooster weighing about 500 grams, administer orally 12 grams each of Wuweizi and white pepper at one time; for an adult rooster, administer orally 18 grams each of Wuweizi and white pepper each time, once a day, for 2 consecutive days.
For roosters caponized by these two methods, generally after about 7 days the rooster's comb begins to shrink, the feathers turn pale yellow, the male characteristics disappear, crowing stops, and fighting stops. It is recommended to first test with a small number of roosters when caponizing; if effective and without side effects, then carry out the operation on a large scale.
