Magnolia liliiflora, also known as Xinyi, is native to central China. It prefers a warm, humid and sunny environment, is relatively cold-tolerant, but not tolerant of drought or saline-alkaline soil, fears waterlogging, and requires fertile, well-drained sandy loam. Propagation: division, layering and sowing are commonly used. For division, it can be done in spring or autumn; dig out the mother plant with dense branches and plant the divisions separately, prune the roots and cut back the branches. For layering, select one- or two-year-old branches; in early spring, the mound layering method or the buried-stem method can be used for propagation. For sowing, collect seeds in September, store them in sand over winter, and sow in spring the following year; germination occurs 20-30 days after sowing. Cultivation: transplant

Cultivation: transplanting can be done in autumn or in early spring before flowering; small seedlings should be dipped in mud slurry, and large seedlings must be moved with a soil ball. Apply fertilizer once before and once after the flowering period, mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. In the high-temperature summer and the dry autumn season, keep the soil moist. After flowering and before new shoots sprout, cut off dead branches and dense branches and cut back excessive vigorous growth.

Application: Magnolia liliiflora is a famous early-spring ornamental flowering tree. When it blooms in early spring, the whole tree is covered with purplish-red flowers, with a graceful and elegant posture and a distinctive charm. It is suitable for planting in front of halls and behind courtyards in classical gardens, and can also be planted alone or scattered in small courtyards.
