How to Restore a Broken Branch in a Bonsai? Detailed Repair Methods

Nursery Stock 0 views
The branches and trunks of a stump bonsai will inevitably get broken, affecting the shape of the whole branch. Effective measures can be taken to revive the damaged branch or restore it to its original state. As long as the branch is not completely broken off, even if only about half of the bark remains connected, it may still be saved. First, carefully fit the broken ends of the damaged branch back together, then take a piece of medium-gauge wire longer than the break and fairly straight and stiff, tie one end of the wire to the broken branch end that connects to the parent plant, and tie the other end to the fitted branch end (if the broken branch is a curved branch, bend the wire to a curvature matching the broken branch during the operation).

After tying it in place, mix 3 parts moss and 7 parts mountain soil by ratio, mix well with a diluted vitamin B12 solution, and apply the mixture as a wrap over the fitted joint. Water frequently to keep it moist, and place it in a cool, ventilated place for care. If the damaged branch is only lightly injured, does not hinder the growth of the branch, and does not affect the overall shape, it can be left to heal naturally, or directly wrapped with hemp rope.

The healing period varies with different tree species and different degrees of damage. After 1 to 3 months of care, once the wound on the broken branch has basically healed, the stump bonsai can be moved back to its original place. After normal cultivation, the wrap can generally be removed after half a year.
