What are the prevention and treatment methods for stomatitis in snakes?
There are not many types of diseases in snakes, and they generally occur infrequently. Common diseases include stomatitis, mold spot disease, pneumonia, trauma and parasitic diseases, etc. Their symptoms and treatment methods are described separately below:
After a snake emerges from hibernation and first awakens, because its body is thin and weak, some harmful bacteria invade the snake's neck and cause swollen stomatitis.
Symptoms: During rearing, a snake suffering from stomatitis holds its head high, and both cheeks and the jaw area swell up. Because the oral cavity has already ulcerated and suppurated, the snake keeps its mouth open and cannot close it, cannot swallow food, and finally cannot eat or drink, and the snake's body will gradually become emaciated and starve to death.
Treatment method: Rinse the oral cavity with normal saline or Rivalon solution, then apply gentian violet to the affected area for several days, rinsing and applying once each day until recovery.
