A Detailed Guide to Snake Feed and Its Preparation Methods
The animal-based foods that various snakes eat are inevitably linked to the environments they inhabit, and this is related to the geographical distribution of small animals. For example, terrestrial snakes have a broad diet and can feed on @#@254@#@, insects and their larvae, fish, frogs, snakes, @#@260@#@, birds, rabbits, and so on; whereas snakes that live in the sea feed on sea fish. Even for the same species of snake, the diet differs across different regions, different seasons, and between adults and juveniles. Providing abundant food in artificial @#@246@#@ is the key to raising snakes well. The food of generalist snakes should be diversified, so some live frogs, rodents, fish, lizards, and other foods should be provided regularly.
Using artificial compound feed to raise juvenile snakes can accelerate their rate of weight gain. Feed formulation: grind 150 grams of livestock and poultry meat or animal trimmings into meat paste with a meat grinder (a freshly dead large toad or rat also works), add 150 grams of egg liquid, 150 grams of soybean powder, 50 grams of cool boiled water, three tablets of compound vitamin B and five tablets of oxytetracycline crushed into powder, mix well, and stir into a thick paste. According to the nutritional needs of snakes, artificially prepared snake bait should have a crude protein content greater than 19%, crude fiber content less than 1.5%, calcium content greater than 0.6%, phosphorus content greater than 0.5%, other inorganic salt content less than 4%, vitamin A at 3500 international units/kg, vitamin D2 at 440 international units/kg, and moisture less than 62%, then supplement with other trace components; this is beneficial for promoting the growth and development of snakes. The main feed ingredients include: meat of livestock, poultry and other animals, wheat bran, fish meal, blood meal, water and other ingredients. The processing method is to cut the animal meat into mince, stir it into a slurry and cook it. Then mix and stir all the ingredients evenly, carry out extrusion processing, and after cooling add the relevant drugs for later use. The nutritional needs of snakes vary by species, and their composition should be adjusted according to the growth and development of the snakes. Artificial feed can be stuffed into sausage casings and made into sausage form to feed the snakes.
