Winter diarrhea is winter epidemic diarrhea in pigs. The peak incidence period is from mid-December each year to mid-January of the following year; the onset is acute, the spread is rapid, and the epidemic area is wide; the incidence rate is high and the mortality rate is low, seriously affecting the growth and development of pigs.

Symptoms

The incubation period of the disease is generally 12 hours to 18 hours. After infection, adult pigs show symptoms of watery diarrhea. The feces are initially grayish-white, gradually becoming yellowish-green, with an offensive fishy odor. Abdominal distension, vomiting, and body temperature initially rises to 40°C to 41°C. Once the diarrhea passes, the body temperature drops, and the pigs are thirsty and eager to drink. Piglets within 10 days of age suddenly vomit, followed by watery diarrhea, with curds in the stool, and die from emaciation if treatment is delayed. The author used integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine to treat more than 100 cases, with an effective rate of over 96%.

Methods

At the beginning of the disease, when body temperature rises, inject Antongding, Analgin, etc. intramuscularly, 10 ml to 20 ml for adult pigs.

For sick pigs with abdominal distension and constipation, Andrographis paniculata and Zhentongning injection can be mixed and injected intramuscularly, with dosages of 10 ml to 20 ml for adult pigs and 5 ml to 10 ml for piglets, twice a day.

After the bowels have been moved, 0.5% Qinjing injection can be used, with a dosage of 2 ml to 5 ml per kg of body weight, and Zhubingling injection 1 ml to 2 ml per 10 kg of body weight. Twice a day.

Polyporus umbellatus, Poria cocos, Atractylodes lancea, and dried tangerine peel 15 grams each, Magnolia officinalis 9 grams, and licorice 3 grams, grind into powder and mix with feed, administer orally once. For those with abdominal distension, add costustoot, bitter orange, and immature bitter orange; for those with food stagnation, add hawthorn and medicated leaven; for those with severe diarrhea and fecal incontinence, add dark plum, plantain seed, and Alisma orientale.
