What are the disinfection methods for pig pens with sick pigs?
To disinfect a pig pen, first clean the pen thoroughly, then disinfect it with 20% lime milk, or 3% hot caustic soda water, or 20% bleaching powder. The order of disinfection is walls, pen railings, doors and windows, feed troughs, floor, utensils, and the floor at the entrance. The disinfectant solution can be applied with a broom or sprayed with a sprayer. After disinfection, the doors and windows of the pen should be closed for 2 to 3 hours before being opened, and at the same time the feed troughs and floor should be rinsed clean with clean water.
For soil disinfection, on dirt floors the manure, bedding straw and other filth should first be removed, then the top layer of soil should be shoveled off, and finally 20% bleaching powder, or 20% lime milk, or 3% hot caustic soda water should be poured over it.
For disinfection of manure and sewage, a small amount of manure, bedding straw and the like can be buried deep; if the amount of manure is relatively large, fermentation can be used for disinfection. The method is to dig a shallow trench some distance away from the pig pen, with a depth of about 40 cm and a width of about 2 m, and the length depending on how much manure there is. First spread a layer of manure from healthy pigs on the bottom of the shallow trench, then pile the manure from the sick pigs on top, then cover it with another layer of manure from healthy pigs and weeds, and finally seal it with thin mud. If the manure from sick pigs is very thin, dry soil or dry chopped straw can be added; if it is too dry, an appropriate amount of water can be added. When the amount of sewage from the sick pig pen is small, it can be poured onto the manure and fermented together for disinfection; when the amount is very large, 2% quicklime powder or 0.2% bleaching powder can be added to the sewage for disinfection.
