A Comprehensive Analysis of the Growing Environment and Growth Characteristics of the Chinese Parasol Tree
The Chinese parasol tree (Firmiana simplex) is light-demanding and fond of warm, humid climates, with weak cold tolerance; it prefers fertile, moist, deep, well-drained soil and can grow in acidic, neutral, and calcareous soils, but it is not suitable for planting in waterlogged lowlands or saline-alkali land, and it does not tolerate weed competition. Waterlogging easily causes root rot, and flooding for five days can kill it. It generally grows better on plains, hills, and in mountain gullies. It is deep-rooted, with a thick taproot; its sprouting ability is weak, so it generally should not be pruned. It grows fairly fast and has a relatively long lifespan. It leafs out late, and sheds its leaves early in autumn. It has strong resistance to a variety of toxic gases.
