Key points for winter care of Phalaenopsis orchids: do these well for a safe overwintering
In the north, Phalaenopsis orchids need to be cultivated in a heated greenhouse in winter. To create environmental conditions suitable for the growth of Phalaenopsis, the following aspects should mainly be done well:
1. Temperature: the suitable temperature for Phalaenopsis growth is 25°C-30°C during the day; above 32°C is unfavorable for growth and flower bud differentiation; at night 18°C-20°C, and it must not be lower than 15°C. If a relatively high temperature is maintained continuously, it is favorable for flowering.
2. Humidity: Phalaenopsis likes relatively high air humidity, and during the growth period it should be kept at 70%-80%. Therefore, water should often be sprayed into the surrounding space to increase humidity, but the moisture in the substrate must not be too high, otherwise root rot is likely; a slightly dry substrate is favorable for the growth of new roots.
3. Light: according to weather conditions, open the shade net promptly every day to promote photosynthesis in Phalaenopsis; when the temperature is relatively high or the humidity is too high, open the roof vents to let it ventilate and breathe.
4. Fertilization: fertilization should adhere to the principle of "light fertilizer applied frequently." A 1500-fold compound fertilizer can be mixed with 5000-fold boric acid for spray application, and afterward a 1500-fold compound fertilizer should be applied once every other week. In addition, Phalaenopsis has fleshy roots; to make its root system thick and plump, the application of potassium fertilizer is relatively important.
5. Pest and disease control: to prevent the occurrence of pests and diseases, disinfect the greenhouse before the seedlings are brought in, and regularly spray fungicide at ordinary times, generally once a week, and when spraying, try to choose sunny days.
