Produced in Guangling County, Shanxi Province. It is divided into three types by body size: large, medium and small. Those with a height at the withers of 1.30 m or more are the large type, with a body weight of about 260 kg and a body length of about 1.35 m; those with a height at the withers below 1.10 m are the small type, with a body weight of about 138 kg and a body length of about 1.05 m; those between the large and small types are the medium type. Among the three types, the medium type is the most numerous. The requirements for coat color selection in breeding jacks or jennies are very strict; generally, the black-browed type is regarded as the top color, followed by the blue-browed, black-headed and tongmao types.
