How can the disease prevention system be improved in soft-shelled turtle farming?
1. Build farming facility conditions that meet ecological requirements, including farming engineering facilities, water source and water quality management, and other aspects.
2. Implement scientific feeding management and daily operations, and use high-quality, complete, diversified feed free of pathogen contamination.
3. Select healthy seedlings for farming. As far as possible, breed hatchlings and young turtles locally, and at the same time try to avoid introducing seedlings from other places, especially imported seedlings, to prevent secondary infection by pathogens. Even if they are introduced, strict quarantine and isolation observation must be carried out.
4. Do a good job in daily hygiene management, establish a relatively closed production system, and cut off the invasion routes of pathogens. At the same time, according to the seasonal occurrence and characteristics of soft-shelled turtle diseases, regularly (2 times per month, each time lasting about 5 days) feed Chinese herbal medicines and some nutritional supplements that strengthen the stomach and promote growth, clear heat and detoxify, and improve immunity. During the peak incidence period, add some antibacterial and antiviral drugs, and appropriately extend the feeding time of medicated bait. Because soft-shelled turtles themselves have very strong vitality and disease resistance, once they show symptoms of illness, it already indicates that there is a certain number of diseased individuals; soft-shelled turtles are not easy to detect in the early stage of disease. Therefore, regular disease prevention and timely treatment are necessary means for successful soft-shelled turtle farming.
