What are the seed treatment methods for Korean pine before raising seedlings?

Seed treatment methods for Korean pine before raising seedlings: The seed shell of Korean pine is dense and hard, covered with wax, not easily permeable to water and air, and contains germination-inhibiting substances such as tannins, making it difficult for the embryo to germinate. Therefore, before sowing, the seeds must be subjected to germination-promoting treatment. The commonly used stratification methods are as follows: 1. Open-air overwintering burial method: In autumn, first soak the seeds in cold water for 2 to 3 days, remove them, mix with 2 to 3 times their volume of wet sand, stir evenly, and place in an open-air pit. The pit site should be chosen in a high, dry place with good drainage. The pit depth is 1.2 to 1

The commonly used stratification methods are as follows:

1. The pit depth is 1.2 to 1.5 m, and the width is 1.2 to 2 m. When the sand-mixed seeds are 20 to 30 cm from the pit opening, place a straw bundle upright every 2 to 3 m for ventilation, then cover with a layer of sand, and heap soil 1 m high on top. This method produces uniform germination; after sowing the following spring, seedlings emerge early, neatly and vigorously.

2. Indoor natural piling method: In mid-to-late August, soak the Korean pine seeds in water for 1 to 2 days, then mix with 2 times their volume of wet sand to bring the moisture content to about 60%, pile 30 to 40 cm thick, and place indoors. When the weather turns cold, pile to 60 cm thick and water to freeze it solid; before spring sowing the following year, turn it over to make temperature and moisture uniform.

3. Rapid germination method: About 40 days before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water at 50°C, stir thoroughly, let cool naturally, then soak for one week, changing the clean water once daily. When the kernel turns milky white, remove the seeds, mix in 2 to 3 times their volume of wet sand, and spread them out to sun in a wind-sheltered, sunny place. Each evening pile up the sand-seed mixture and cover with plastic film, then spread it out again the next day. To speed up germination, it can also be heated indoors, keeping the sand-seed mixture at 20 to 25°C, turning it several times daily, and maintaining a certain humidity. When one-third of the seeds have cracked open, they are ready for sowing.
