Spring Beauty Chrysanthemum, also known as Yellow Crystal Chrysanthemum, is a biennial herbaceous flower of the genus Chrysanthemum in the Asteraceae family. It has strong cold resistance, blooms early, has a long flowering period, and produces abundant, brightly colored flowers with great ornamental value. Yellow Crystal Chrysanthemum is suitable for planting in open-field flower beds and flower borders, and works well as edging or in color-block compositions; it can also be potted to decorate courtyards and beautify interiors, making it a rare and excellent flower for early-spring ornamental and environmental landscaping.

Propagation method: Spring Beauty Chrysanthemum is propagated by sowing, usually sown in autumn from September to October, and can also be spring-sown in cold northern regions. Open-field seedbeds and seedling trays commonly use loose, fertile, well-drained sandy loam, or a growing medium prepared by mixing loam and perlite at a ratio of 4:1. When sowing, use a fine-nozzle watering can to spray a 2% potassium permanganate aqueous solution thoroughly to disinfect the growing medium. After there is no standing water, mix the seeds evenly with a small amount of fine sand or growing medium and broadcast them in the seedbed, then cover with sifted growing medium to a thickness that just hides the seeds. Cover the seedbed and seedling tray with double-layer shade netting, keep the soil moist. At the suitable germination temperature of 15°C to 20°C, germination and emergence occur in about 10 days. After full emergence, remove the double-layer shade netting. If the temperature is high and light is strong, build a small arched frame and cover it with one layer of shade netting to cool down; when the weather turns cooler, remove the shade netting again. When the seedlings grow 2 to 3 true leaves, spray 50% carbendazim wettable powder at 1000 times dilution to prevent diseases, and at the same time spray the leaves with a mixed solution of 0.05% urea and potassium dihydrogen phosphate, 2 to 3 times per month, to promote robust seedling growth. When the seedling leaves grow to the point of shading each other, the seedlings can be divided and transplanted into pots or moved to flower beds. Because the leaves of Yellow Crystal Chrysanthemum seedlings lie close to the soil surface, while watering thoroughly to settle the roots promptly after transplanting, also wash off the growing medium on the leaf surfaces, and cover with shade netting to help the seedlings recover; after they survive, maintain them under full-light conditions.

Cultivation management: The seedling stage of Spring Beauty Chrysanthemum occurs in winter. To let it continue growing and bloom early, it is best to cultivate it in a plastic greenhouse or conservatory, then move it outdoors or to flower beds in early spring the following year. During the growing period, strengthen fertilizer and water management, keep the growing medium moist, but avoid prolonged waterlogging, which can cause root rot and affect growth and development. Apply a 0.2% to 0.5% compound fertilizer aqueous solution of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (ratio 2:1:2) 2 to 3 times per month. As the seedlings grow, gradually increase the fertilizer concentration. Spring Beauty Chrysanthemum tends to form flower buds during the growing period; to promote side branches and increase the crown width, remove buds promptly. To make the flower stems upright and prevent lodging, apply a 0.02% calcium nitrate aqueous solution once every 10 days during the bud stage. Replenish phosphorus and potassium fertilizers promptly during the flowering period. After the flowers fade, prune off spent flowers at any time, which enables the plant to bloom more, prolongs the flowering period, and enhances the ornamental effect.

Pests and diseases: Spring Beauty Chrysanthemum rarely suffers from pests and diseases in cultivation. When diseases such as leaf spot and stem rot occur, use 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder at 600 times dilution or 75% thiophanate-methyl at 1000 times dilution for control. When pests such as aphids and leafminers occur, use 40% omethoate emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times dilution, 2.5% cyhalothrin emulsion at 500 times dilution, 20% fenpropathrin emulsifiable concentrate at 2000 times dilution, or 5% beta-cypermethrin at 1000 times dilution, spraying alternately in rotation for control, once every 10 days, for 3 consecutive sprays.
