Causes and Prevention Methods of Gastrointestinal Bloating in Foxes

(1) Clinical symptoms: This disease mostly occurs in summer, especially during the weaning and separation period, and is commonly seen. The affected animal's abdominal circumference increases, and it emits a drum-like sound when tapped, feels elastic when pressed, and feels a large amount of gas on palpation; when pressed by hand, it shows difficulty breathing; most affected animals stretch out their heads and necks, lying prone in the den or cage. If not treated in time, most die from cardiac weakness and suffocation. First, the cause of the bloating must be eliminated to reduce the fermentation and gas production process in the gastrointestinal tract. Oral administration of 5% lactic acid solution (or edible vinegar) 3-5 milliliters can often relieve this disease. Oral administration of a mixture of 0.2 grams of salol, 1.2 grams of lactasin, and 0.2 grams of artificial salt can also be effective. Of course, for critically ill patients, puncture and gas release therapy should be used, along with injection of preservatives such as lactic acid.

Treatment Methods for Bloating in Fur Animals 2

Bloating caused by dry feces:

When the feed contains excessive wheat bran, or excessive protein such as fish and meat, or due to febrile disease and other reasons, the feces become dry and excretion is not smooth, causing abdominal distension. Oral administration of magnesium sulfate and edible soybean oil (according to the individual's size, use according to instructions) can be given. This serves to moisten the intestines and promote bowel movement. As long as the feces pass, the bloating caused by this reason disappears.

Bloating caused by incompletely cooked legume substances in the feed:

Because raw soybean products contain gas-producing factors, after the animal eats them, abnormal fermentation occurs in the digestive tract, causing bloating. This situation generally develops very quickly and brings great losses to farmers. The treatment methods are as follows:

If discovered in time, a small amount of edible vinegar should be administered orally to the affected animal as early as possible. Edible vinegar here serves an antifoaming function.

For individual cases with severe bloating, quickly find a syringe and insert the needle at the highest swollen point (depending on the situation, insert the needle 0.5----2 cm), then clamp the needle head with the index and middle fingers of the right hand, hold the syringe barrel with the left hand, and at the moment of pulling off the syringe barrel, block the needle head with the right thumb, then slowly release the gas. If the needle head is not blocked and the gas is released too quickly, the affected animal will die immediately. Because the heart was originally bearing "enormous" pressure, after the gas is released too quickly, the pressure on the heart suddenly decreases, which can easily cause insufficient blood supply to the brain and rapidly lead to death.
