Introduction to the Meat-Type Qinglong Dog Breed and Analysis of Its Characteristics
In recent years, dog meat has become very popular in the market, and the dog-raising industry has developed along with it. However, for a long time, although rural households in China have had the habit of keeping dogs, they were mainly kept for guarding homes and courtyards, and there was basically no specialized meat-type dog breed. The meat-type Qinglong Dog is a new meat-type dog breed developed by the Meat-Type Dog Fine Breed Breeding Base of the Chinese Agricultural Society and the Jilin Provincial Meat-Type Dog Research Institute. It is a crossbred variety; its paternal line is the Tibetan Mastiff native to Tibet, China. This dog is large in build and extremely swift and fierce, with a shoulder width of up to 80 cm and a body weight of nearly 100 kg; its maternal line is the Mongolian Shepherd Dog native to Inner Mongolia, China. This dog is not only tall in stature, but also has very prominent maternal characteristics, with high estrus rate, conception rate, and litter rate. Therefore, the Qinglong Dog not only possesses the appearance of its paternal line, shaped like a tiger and strong as a lion, but also, like its maternal line, has a very high reproductive rate and can directly continue to breed the next generation of puppies using Qinglong Dogs. Adult Qinglong Dogs can reach a body weight of 50 kg, and they grow quickly and have a high meat yield; they only need to be raised for 4 months before they can be marketed.
The Qinglong Dog is attractive in appearance, gentle in temperament, not fond of fighting, not fond of barking, not hostile to people, and fond of playing, which is conducive to the accumulation of lean meat; it is also tolerant of coarse feed and easy to raise, eating grains and miscellaneous cereals, as well as vegetables and the meat of livestock and poultry. An adult dog needs only half a kilogram of feed per day to meet its growth and development needs. Qinglong Dog meat is fresh and tender and rich in nutrients, with nourishing and medicinal effects, playing a role in enriching the blood, tonifying the kidneys, fitness and beauty, and prolonging life.
Although the Qinglong Dog has the characteristics of relatively strong disease resistance, a low viral infection rate, a high cure rate, and a low mortality rate, epidemic prevention work must still be done well, and scientific feeding must be carried out according to strict epidemic prevention procedures. Pens and feeding utensils must be disinfected regularly and cleaned every day to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. Dogs showing abnormal conditions must be treated promptly to ensure the normal growth of Qinglong Dogs.
The Chinese Agricultural Society has fully recognized that the successful breeding of the meat-type Qinglong Dog has filled the gap in meat-type dog breeds at home and abroad. Up to now, nearly ten thousand fine-breed Qinglong Dogs have been promoted to 25 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions including Heilongjiang, Shandong, Guangdong, and **, and have received appreciation and praise from more than 200 breeding farms (households) in China. In March 1999, it was registered as the "Qinglong Meat-Type Dog" trademark with the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, and was also rated as a "Famous Brand Product" at the '99 China International Agriculture @#@119@#@, and is worth promoting nationwide.
