What are the prevention and control methods for bighead carp emaciation disease
1. Cause: Due to excessive stocking density and insufficient feed, some fry or fingerlings cannot obtain enough feed and become emaciated and die.
2. Symptoms: The diseased fish has a shrunken, withered body, a large head and a small tail, a back like a knife blade, pale gill filaments, severe anemia, sluggish activity, and a darkened body color, dying not long after.
3. Prevalence: This disease mostly occurs in the later stage of the fingerling rearing phase. Fingerlings in overwintering ponds and overstocked adult fish are affected due to improper stocking density and mixing ratios and insufficient feeding, especially bighead carp.
4. Prevention and control methods: Strengthen feeding management and feeding work, and feed well and to satiation before overwintering; properly manage the mixing ratios and stocking density.
