Pig lice (haematopinus, hog lice) are a type of wingless small insect that parasitizes the body surface of pigs, mostly parasitizing the armpits, inner thighs, lower jaw, lower neck, and the wrinkled areas of the skin on the lower side of the body, and are also numerous behind the ear flaps. Pig lice suck the blood of pigs, causing the pigs' skin to itch and their mood to become restless and agitated, and in severe cases they can also cause skin damage in pigs, emaciation and anemia, affecting the growth and development of pigs, and they can occur throughout all four seasons. Healthy pigs can be directly infected through contact with lice-carrying diseased pigs, and can also be indirectly infected through equipment, bedding straw, and the like. Healthy pigs can be directly infected through contact with lice-carrying diseased pigs, and can also be indirectly infected through equipment, bedding straw, and the like. Pig lice reproduce quickly and are good at crawling, and once a pig is infected, they can rapidly spread to the entire herd.

A diagnosis can be confirmed based on symptoms and physical examination of the body surface revealing the insects and louse eggs adhering to the hair. For the prevention and control of pig lice, attention should be paid to doing a good job of cleaning and hygiene in the pig house and on the pigs' bodies, and the pigs' bodies should be frequently inspected; especially pigs purchased from outside should be examined in detail for whether there are pig lice at the ear roots, lower jaw, armpits, and inner thighs, and whether there are louse eggs on the hair, and once discovered they should be treated promptly. The specific method for eradicating pig lice is: take 4 tablets of veterinary refined trichlorfon, 100 grams of talcum powder, and 2 camphor balls, mix them and grind them into a fine powder, wrap it well with clean gauze, and evenly pat it onto the pigs' bodies, with special attention to patting it on the pigs' abdomen, inner sides of the limbs, and inner sides of the ear roots and other areas, patting once a day, used continuously for 3 to 5 days, and the pig lice can be eradicated. This medicine can also be used for external deworming of cattle, sheep, rabbits, chickens, and other livestock and poultry. For external deworming of livestock and poultry with longer hair, after applying the medicine you must use your hands (wearing leather gloves) to repeatedly touch the bodies of the livestock and poultry several times, so that the medicine fully contacts the skin of the livestock and poultry bodies, in order to achieve the purpose of eradicating external parasites of livestock and poultry. You can also use 30 grams of Stemona root, add 500 milliliters of water and decoct for half an hour, then take the juice and apply it to the affected area.
