How to treat cattle gastrointestinal inflammation? Clever use of stove soil works well
1. Incidence situation
On August 15, 2005, a farmer surnamed Ma from our town came to the clinic and said that his family had 7 cattle and 18 sheep, which would not eat forage and only drank water, and had been having diarrhea for 3 days already. 3 cattle and 4 sheep had fallen and could not stand up. The cottonseed oil residue piled in the yard had been eaten by the cattle and sheep 3 days earlier.
2. Symptoms
After examination, 7 cattle were found ill, weighing 180-290 kg. The cattle had white foam flowing from the mouth, were unsteady standing, had severe diarrhea, stopped eating grass, ruminating, and belching, liked to drink water, had sunken eye sockets, were physically weak, and their body temperature was 41-42°C. Their intestinal sounds were increased, breathing was 25-32 times per minute, and pulse was 62-95 beats. Among them, 3 cattle had disappeared intestinal sounds, cyanotic, red-yellow mucous membranes, cold ears, nose, mouth, and limbs, yellow and thick tongue coating, dry oral cavity, and no water droplets on the nose mirror. The sick sheep also had the above symptoms.
3. Treatment
1. 4 grams of 1 million streptomycin, 150 grams of stove soil (soil from a pot stove burned with grass and wood), 30 grams of bismuth subnitrate, 30 grams of tannalbin, 40 grams of sodium bicarbonate (increase or decrease according to the body weight of cattle and sheep), administered once daily.
2. Intravenous drip of 2000-3000 milliliters of 5% glucose sodium chloride solution, twice a day for severe cases, once a day for mild cases.
3. 20 milliliters of 10% anacaine, intramuscular injection twice a day for severe cases, once a day for mild cases.
4. Stop feeding forage, give light warm saline, stove soil, and corn porridge soup, and let the sick livestock drink freely. For those that do not drink, administer by drenching, 3000-7000 milliliters per day.
After the above treatment, 3 days later the cattle's diarrhea stopped completely, eating and drinking recovered, breathing, pulse, and body temperature were normal, the temperature of the ears, nose, limbs, and head was normal, and there were water droplets on the nose mirror. After observation, 7 days later the affected cattle returned to normal, with no recurrence.
