Four precautions for autumn fishing to keep in mind

First, choose a good fishing time. Fishing should be done on sunny days, around dawn before the fish surface for air. At this time, fishing has the least impact on the pond fish, and the freshly caught fish can be supplied to the morning market in time. In overcast, muggy weather, or when pond fish are surfacing for air or there is an outbreak of fish disease, it is not advisable to seine and catch fish, so as to avoid causing a large number of fish deaths and unnecessary economic losses. Second, stop feeding or feed less before fishing.

One day before fishing, feeding should be stopped or the amount of feed reduced, and one must by no means feed large amounts of concentrated feed just to increase the weight of the fresh fish for market. Because after fish eat their fill, their oxygen consumption increases, and when they are startled during capture, they jump and dart about, which easily causes injury and death. One or two days before fishing, the leftover residue and bait in the pond should also be removed, as well as all kinds of debris and waste floating on the water surface.

Third, pay attention to the fishing method. For ponds with a relatively large area and dense fish, it is not advisable to catch fish from the whole pond; it is better to catch from half the pond or 1/3 of the pond. Because at this time the water temperature is relatively high, the fish are highly active and consume a large amount of oxygen. They cannot tolerate crowding, and when too many fish are gathered together, it is most likely to cause injury and death. The seining operation should be quick and careful, reducing noise as much as possible so as not to startle the pond fish. After the fish are gathered together, the small fish in the net that have not yet reached commercial size should first be quickly and gently picked out and returned to the original pond, and then the large fish for market should be sorted out, carefully preventing the small fish from being injured or suffocating to death due to dense crowding and squeezing, which would lead to losses.

Fourth, management after fishing. In the pond after fishing, the fish are more active and consume more oxygen, and during fishing the mud and residue at the bottom of the pond are stirred up, the organic matter at the bottom is turned up, which speeds up the rate of oxidative decomposition and also greatly increases oxygen consumption. Therefore, the dissolved oxygen in the pond water will drop rapidly, very easily causing the pond fish to surface for air due to lack of oxygen. It is necessary to promptly add fresh water or turn on an aerator to increase oxygen, and quicklime slurry can be splashed over the whole pond to disinfect and sterilize, improve and regulate water quality, so as to ensure the safety of the fish and guard against accidents.
