Introduction of Improved Breeds of Jinyun Ma Duck and Breed Characteristics

Jinyun Ma Duck is a famous local breed of laying duck in China, known for early maturity, high egg production, low feed consumption, strong disease resistance and wide adaptability.

Appearance characteristics: the body is light, small and narrow and long, with a snake-like head and full eyes, a long bill and a thin neck, a small front body and a large rear body, and a full, drooping rump. When walking, the body extends forward at a 45° angle to the ground. The body structure is well proportioned, compact and firm, with a typical egg-type duck body shape. Among them:

◎Line I (brown ma duck) female ducks are mainly brown with freckled feathers, the abdomen is lighter in color, the bill is yellow, and the chest and webbed feet are orange-yellow (red). This type has thicker plumage.

◎Line II (light gray ma duck) female ducks are mainly light gray with freckled feathers, among which the abdominal feathers are white, and the head and neck have striped light brown feathers. The bill is grayish yellow, and the shanks and webbed feet are orange-yellow (red).

◎The blue-shell line was developed from the Line I duck as the base population through scientific breeding methods. Its appearance is similar to Line I, the feather color is more brownish red than that of Line I ducks, and the bill and webbed feet are mainly dark green.

Production performance: Jinyun Ma Duck has the characteristics of early maturity and high yield. Under good feeding and management conditions, it begins laying at 85-90 days of age, the laying rate reaches more than 50% at 120 days, and more than 90% at 135-145 days. The peak laying period can be maintained for 8-10 months. At 500 days of age, egg production can reach 310-330 eggs, with a total egg weight of more than 21 kg. During the laying period, the egg-to-feed ratio is 1:2.7-2.85. The blue-shell rate of the blue-shell line is about 90%. At the same time, Jinyun Ma Duck also has superior production performance such as a relatively small body size and relatively low feed consumption; strong disease resistance and stress resistance; tolerance to cold and drought, and it can be raised in confinement, cages or by grazing, and is suitable for raising all over the country.
