Planting Methods and Care Tips for Golden Privet
Golden Privet - A new variety of lemon-yellow colorful-leaf flowering shrub
Golden Privet belongs to the genus Ligustrum in the family Oleaceae and is a sister variety of Ligustrum japonicum 'Howardii'. It was successfully bred in 2003.
I. Ecological Habits
Golden Privet is a deciduous or semi-evergreen shrub, with papery-leathery leaves, elliptical, hairless, pointed at the tip, wedge-shaped at the base; the petioles have short pubescence. The flowers are white, fragrant, and sessile. It likes sunlight and is slightly shade-tolerant, with strong disease resistance and cold resistance.
Its application range is extremely wide, suitable for planting in North China, the Yangtze River basin and the Southwest region. From Beijing in the north, to Sichuan and Tibet in the west, to Guangdong and Fujian in the south, and to all coastal areas in the east, it is suitable for growth. In the south it remains evergreen all year round, while in the north it sheds its leaves in winter and can overwinter in the open field.
II. Landscape Application Prospects
Golden Privet grows vigorously, has strong sprouting ability, strong leaf regeneration ability, and tolerates heavy pruning. It has multiple product application forms such as color blocks, low hedges, tall hedges, spherical shapes, and columnar shapes. Its branches and leaves are dense and neat, and it can be used for courtyard planting and ornamentation; it has few pests and diseases and can reduce noise; it can absorb various toxic gases such as sulfur dioxide, chlorine, hydrogen fluoride, and hydrogen chloride, and can be planted in areas with severe air pollution, making it an excellent pollution-resistant tree species.
In autumn, winter and early spring, the leaves turn a bright yellow like rapeseed flowers, while in the hot summer they turn a cool tender green. When used in combination with Photinia × fraseri, it is even more beautiful and spectacular.
