Control of Common Diseases and Pests

The physiological disorders among the common diseases of Belgian azalea are mainly caused by differences in water quality between production and sales areas, unsuitable temperatures during transport, or insufficient light when placed indoors at home. The control method is mainly to adjust light, the pH of irrigation water, and temperature according to the physiological habits of Belgian azalea.

Common diseases of a pathological nature include:

Gray Mold

Thinning seedlings, reducing humidity, and preserving warmth are the fundamental control measures. For chemical control, choose any one of the following fungicides and spray: iprodione (1500x dilution), mancozeb (500x dilution), procymidone (150x dilution), chlorothalonil (600x dilution), etc. Generally use 2-3 times, once every 7-10 days; rotating the chemicals is better.

Southern Blight

The southern blight fungus generally harms the roots. The growing medium should be strictly selected, and preventive measures such as sun exposure or mixing with chemicals should be used before use. For chemical control, during the growing period, drench the roots with dexon (500x dilution) or quintozene (800x dilution). Generally 2 applications can eliminate it, with an interval of about 10 days.

Stem Rot

Stem rot generally occurs on the seedling bed, with symptoms showing as rot of the stem at the base of the seedling. Transplanting young seedlings in time is the fundamental solution. For chemical control, root drenching with oxadixyl (600x dilution) or DuPont Curzate (600x dilution) gives relatively good results.

The common pests are mainly mites and red spider mites. For chemical control, spray with mitedicide (1500x dilution) or abamectin (3000x dilution). Generally 2 sprays can solve the problem, once every 7-10 days.
