Dog Eye Protection Methods and Daily Care Essentials

An animal's eyes largely reflect its state of health. So you should regularly check your dog's eyes. When a dog is infected with certain infectious diseases such as canine distemper, it often causes inflammation, redness and swelling of the eyes, with the eye sockets filled with purulent mucous discharge, and can even make the dog unable to open its eyes; at this point you must strengthen treatment and care of the eyes. The best method is to dip a cotton ball in medical-grade chloramphenicol eye drops and gently wipe from the inner corner of the eye outward, until the area around the eye is wiped clean. Then instill an appropriate amount of eye drops into the dog's eye to eliminate the inflammation. Certain breeds such as the Pekingese, Chihuahua, Shih Tzu, Poodle, and Shar-Pei, because these dogs have shorter tear glands or larger, protruding eyeballs and produce more tears, the large amount of tears easily stains the coat, affecting the dog's head appearance and causing the dog to develop an odor. For these dogs, you should pay extra attention to protecting their eyes in daily life, wiping the eyes with chloramphenicol eye drops 2-3 times a week to keep the dog's eyes bright and attractive.
