According to Perishablenews.com, the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has completed a pest risk analysis for the import of fresh jujubes from China and is currently receiving comments. After a comprehensive analysis, researchers at the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service determined that fresh jujubes from China can be imported into the United States under a comprehensive safety and quarantine system.

The notice published by the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service shows that they received a request from China's National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) to export fresh red jujubes from China to the United States. Based on this request, the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service conducted a pest risk analysis and developed a risk management document that sets out the phytosanitary measures that can be applied to fresh jujubes from China.

These measures involve producers, packers and exporters and can minimize pest risk before fresh jujubes are imported into the United States. They include origin restrictions, pest-free production areas, fruit fly management, and registration of production sites and packing houses, and also require that imports be limited to commercial vessels, with each shipment also having to be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate and a statement indicating that the above measures have been taken.
