How to quickly remove odor from pig pens? Introduction to practical methods
Pig pens often have a fairly strong smell, but some farms have very little of it. So how do they handle it? Actually, you can look at where the released smell comes from and just deal with it accordingly!

1. Ventilation and air flow
Ventilation and air flow is one of the most commonly used methods. In well-ventilated pig pens, odor does not easily accumulate, so the smell naturally becomes weaker. Therefore, the vents should be positioned well, and it is best if the vents on both sides can face each other directly, so the odor disperses quickly. Places where pig manure easily accumulates should be given priority when choosing vent locations, so that before the odor spreads out, it is carried out of the pig pen. However, this can easily pollute the nearby air environment. If the farm is not very remote, this handling method can easily cause conflicts with others, so it should also be used together with other methods.
2. Improve sanitation treatment equipment
The strongest source of smell in pig pens is mainly pig excrement, so improving sanitation treatment equipment is a fairly effective solution. The process is to regularly clean up manure, then move it along transport channels to a designated location and keep it in a sealed environment, so the odor is concentrated in a closed environment and is not easily released. If conditions allow, it can also be built into a biogas digester to maximize its profit. To facilitate fermentation, the pig pen also needs to be regularly rinsed with clean water, so that when the source of odor is gone, the smell in the pig pen naturally decreases.
3. Add supplements to the feed
If pigs eat too much when feeding, it can also cause some odor to be released, because they cannot digest it in time. Just as when people are full and burp, a smell can also be noticed coming from the mouth. Speeding up the pigs' gastrointestinal digestion and similar measures can also reduce the production of odor and achieve the effect of removing odor. Enzyme preparations, probiotics and the like all have this effect, and they can also reduce gas production in the pigs' stomachs. This method can also effectively reduce the situation of pig pens being filled with stench.
4. Hang adsorbent materials inside the pig pen
Fewer people may know about this method, and generally people think its practicality is not that good, but relatively speaking it is still quite considerable. Some activated carbon can be hung at some odor sources or above the pig pen to adsorb odor and achieve the effect of cleaning the air. Activated carbon has an extremely strong adsorption effect and takes effect quickly. On the ground, some coal cinder, quicklime and the like can be placed opposite, and they also have a good adsorption effect. Everyone should put them in breathable bags, not sealed ones, otherwise they will be unable to adsorb.
Besides the above methods, there are others too, such as using special pig pen cleaning agents and the like, but this method is not very good for the human body, so it is not recommended for everyone to use. Those still troubled by odor can go and try the above methods.
