Spider Plant Propagation Methods and Cultivation Management Tips
1. Propagation is commonly done by division: separate the root clumps of old plants in early spring and replant them separately, or at any time cut off the small rooted plantlets growing on the runners, which root very easily.
2. Cultivation: spider plants are highly vigorous and easy to cultivate and manage. They are generally grown as indoor potted foliage plants. Fertile soil is preferable, but they adapt strongly to various soils. Keep the soil consistently moist, apply a liquid fertilizer mainly of nitrogen every 2 weeks, and frequently spray water on the leaves to wash off dust and keep the foliage fresh and green, and cut off yellow leaves at any time. Ordinarily pay attention to ventilation and give suitable light, but avoid strong direct light for long periods, otherwise the leaves turn grayish green and lose their ornamental value. In winter, place them indoors in a sunny spot to overwinter, and the temperature should not fall below 4°C. Each year in March, repot once, cutting off old roots, rotten roots and excess fibrous roots.
3. Key points for water culture: (1) Cut off shoots with 3-5 leaves and insert them into the nutrient solution. (2) Change the solution once a month.
