Qingyuan wapiti is a science and technology project jointly researched and developed by the Institute of Special Animal and Plant Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Fushun Academy of Agricultural Sciences. In December 2002, it passed the review of the National Livestock and Poultry Breed Committee, and in February 2003, the Ministry of Agriculture approved it as a new national livestock and poultry breed. In 2003, it won the first prize for scientific and technological progress in Fushun City, and in 2004, it won the second prize for scientific and technological progress in Liaoning Province. The Fushun Academy of Agricultural Sciences, as one of the main completing units of this scientific and technological achievement, through years of unremitting efforts, has built the Qingyuan Wapiti Improved Breed Breeding Base, possessing excellent purebred Qingyuan wapiti

The Fushun Academy of Agricultural Sciences, as one of the main completing units of this scientific and technological achievement, through years of unremitting efforts, has built the Qingyuan Wapiti Improved Breed Breeding Base, possessing nearly 100 excellent purebred Qingyuan wapiti deer, with breeding stag No. 800 (fresh velvet antler yield per head 21 kg) and No. 0-12 (fresh velvet antler yield per head at the third sawing 18.2 kg) serving as stud stags for the production of straw frozen semen, and industry insiders have praised the Qingyuan wapiti as the "King of Deer."

In order to solve the prominent contradiction between the demand of the vast number of @#@253@#@ for improved breeding stags and the shortage of breeding stock, the Fushun Academy of Agricultural Sciences cooperated with relevant scientific research institutions such as the Institute of Special Animal and Plant Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to carry out technical research, conducting research on artificial insemination technology for Qingyuan wapiti. After more than 8 years of research, the physiological characteristics of Qingyuan wapiti semen were clarified, and many difficult problems in the artificial insemination technology of Qingyuan wapiti were solved. According to testing by the Product Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, the improved breeding stags used for straw frozen semen have stable genetic performance in their offspring, and the deer breeds are excellent.

In the deep processing of velvet antler products, a method combining freeze-drying, ultra-low temperature micronization, ultrasonic cracking and low-temperature vacuum concentration technology is adopted to carry out high-purity processing and extraction of high-quality Qingyuan wapiti velvet antler, obtaining complete protein content and amino acid types, rich in nutritional active substances, which plays a driving role in the development of the human nutritional health care and medical pharmaceutical industries. At present, the construction of the breeding stag production base and the preliminary construction of the deer product processing base have been completed. In 2007, it will apply for a high-tech industrialization demonstration project of the National Science and Technology Commission, which will play a key role in the industrialization development of Qingyuan wapiti.
