Winter diarrhea is epidemic diarrhea in pigs during winter. The peak incidence period is from mid-December each year to mid-January of the following year; the disease onset is acute, spreads rapidly, and has a wide epidemic range; the incidence rate is high and the mortality rate is low, severely affecting the growth and development of pigs. Symptoms The incubation period of the disease is generally 12 hours to 18 hours. After adult pigs are infected, watery diarrhea appears. The feces are initially grayish white, gradually becoming yellowish green, with an unpleasant fishy odor. Abdominal distension, vomiting, and body temperature initially rises to 40°C to 41°C.

Symptoms

The incubation period of the disease is generally 12 hours to 18 hours. After adult pigs are infected, watery diarrhea appears. The feces are initially grayish white, gradually becoming yellowish green, with an unpleasant fishy odor. Abdominal distension, vomiting, and body temperature initially rises to 40°C to 41°C. Once diarrhea occurs, the body temperature drops, and the pigs are thirsty and eager to drink. Piglets within 10 days of age suddenly vomit, followed by watery diarrhea, with curds in the stool, and die from emaciation if treatment is too late. The author used integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine to treat more than 100 cases, with an effective rate of over 96%.

Methods

At the beginning of the illness, when body temperature rises, intramuscular injection of antipyrine, analgin, etc., 10 ml to 20 ml for adult pigs.

For sick pigs with abdominal distension and blocked bowel movements, Andrographis paniculata and Zhentongning injection can be mixed and injected intramuscularly. The doses are 10 ml to 20 ml for adult pigs and 5 ml to 10 ml for piglets, twice a day.

After the bowels are opened, 0.5% Jiujing injection can be used, with a dose of 2 ml to 5 ml per kg of body weight, and Zhubingling injection 1 ml to 2 ml per 10 kg of body weight. Twice a day.

Polyporus umbellatus, Poria cocos, Atractylodes lancea, and dried tangerine peel 15 grams each, Magnolia officinalis 9 grams, licorice 3 grams, grind into powder and mix with feed, administer orally once. For abdominal distension, add costus root, bitter orange, and immature bitter orange; for food stagnation, add hawthorn and medicated leaven; for severe diarrhea with fecal incontinence, add dark plum, plantain seed, and Alisma orientale.
