How to Increase Royal Jelly Production? Analysis of Practical Technical Measures
Increasing royal jelly production is an important guarantee for improving the economic benefits of beekeeping. To increase royal jelly production, the following 5 technical measures should be implemented well.
1. Cultivate strong colonies, bringing @#@255@#@ colony strength to a full colony of 12 frames or more
Among bees, royal jelly is secreted by young bees and is the main food supplied to the queen bee and bee larvae. Therefore, to increase royal jelly production, there must be strong colonies with more young bees, and the royal jelly production colonies must be adjusted in a timely manner. If there are only 6-7 frames of full bees, it will be impossible to achieve high royal jelly production. For this reason, it is necessary to increase the number of young bees, so that the bee colony strength grows to a full colony of 12 frames or more, laying a good foundation for increasing royal jelly production.
2. Prepare enough age-appropriate bee larvae to ensure the need for larval grafting
To produce royal jelly in large quantities, many bee larvae are needed. Generally, for each royal jelly frame grafted, there must be at least hundreds of age-appropriate bee larvae. If you search for them temporarily before grafting larvae, it will not only take time but also be difficult to find enough. Therefore, 5-6 days before each planned larval grafting, empty combs should be added to newly divided bee colonies or double-queen colonies to let the queen bee lay eggs. In this way, by the time of larval grafting, most will be age-appropriate larvae within 24 hours, not only numerous in quantity and uniform in larval age, with about 1 frame of larvae able to graft 6 or more royal jelly frames, but also speeding up larval grafting, eliminating the need for temporary searching, saving time, and improving work efficiency.
3. Implement reward feeding to stimulate worker bees' enthusiasm for secreting royal jelly
The amount of royal jelly produced mainly depends on how much the worker bees secrete. To stimulate worker bees' enthusiasm for secreting royal jelly, reward feeding of the bee colonies should be maintained. The time for reward feeding is the evening of the day before collecting royal jelly. At this time, even during the major honey flow period, if there is insufficient nectar source or insufficient stored honey and pollen, reward feeding must likewise be carried out.
4. Persist in timely royal jelly collection to prevent bee larvae from consuming too much royal jelly
Regarding the royal jelly secreted by young bees, if collection is too late, the bee larvae will have grown larger and will increase their consumption, reducing royal jelly production. Therefore, the timely collection time can generally be within 68-72 hours after the bee larvae are grafted, and scraping the royal jelly can be scheduled after 9 a.m. The royal jelly should be scraped clean carefully to prevent larval body fluids from mixing into the royal jelly, causing the royal jelly to foam and affecting quality.
5. Combine with large-scale sugar feeding to extend the royal jelly production period
The length of the royal jelly production period directly relates to the level of production. Therefore, to extend the royal jelly production period, when the major honey flow period is about to end, seize the auxiliary nectar and pollen sources and the pollen-without-nectar period, and combine with large-scale sugar feeding, so that the royal jelly production period can be effectively extended, thereby increasing royal jelly output.
