Precautions for pigeon breeding

The pigeon is a bird with a very long history, and it has a very long history of being raised in our country. Pigeons have various breeding directions such as egg pigeons, meat pigeons, and breeding pigeons, and they can also be kept as pets, making them a breeding project with relatively large profits. When raising pigeons, pigeon breeding is very important, and there are many places that require our attention. So today, the editor has brought you the precautions for pigeon breeding. Let's take a look together!

1. Prevent early mating

Sometimes, after pigeons reach sexual maturity, it does not mean their bodies have also matured. Therefore, to prevent pigeons from mating early, we should complete the grouping work when the pigeons are 4 months old. Usually, only when the pigeons' bodies have gradually matured at around half a year can breeding be carried out. Otherwise, if breeding occurs too early, the female pigeon's body has not yet reached the standard for breeding, and problems such as soft eggs and rotten eggs are likely to occur. It will also harm the female pigeon's body.

2. Egg-laying management

Usually, under normal feeding and management, a female pigeon can lay two eggs each time. However, this will last for about 3 days. Generally, after laying the first egg on the first day, the second egg is laid only on the third day. Therefore, feeding and management must be done well when the female pigeon lays eggs, because the egg-laying times differ by 1-2 days. During this stage, the female pigeon must be given supplemental nutrition to improve the quality of the pigeon eggs. This ensures normal hatching later and prevents hatching failure due to insufficient nutrition for the young pigeons.

3. Incubation management

Unlike chicken incubation, after the female pigeon finishes laying two eggs, the male and female pigeons will incubate continuously. The incubation time is about 3 weeks. During incubation, after about 5 days, a manual candling should be carried out once. If the blood vessels inside the egg are normal in color, evenly distributed, and appear net-like, it means normal incubation is possible. Then, after 5 more days, candle the eggs again. If one side inside the egg is dark and the other side is empty, it means incubation is normal, and after about another week, the chick will break out of the shell.

4. Do a good job of disease prevention

During pigeon breeding, the nesting bowls where pigeons incubate should be checked frequently, and attention should be paid to the bedding straw. If there is no bedding straw, the breeding eggs are very likely to break and fail to hatch. This lowers the hatching rate, and the position of the nesting bowl should be fixed to avoid the nesting bowl swaying unsteadily. If the nesting bowl is not fixed, young pigeons can very easily fall out of the nesting bowl and die, and breeding pigeons will fight, seriously affecting the incubation of breeding eggs and lowering the survival rate of young pigeons.

5. Feed management

During incubation, the protein content in the feed should be increased, especially crude protein, and the crude protein content should reach about 19%. This provides enough pigeon milk for the young pigeons after they break out of the shell and prevents insufficient pigeon milk from affecting the growth of the young pigeons. If the female pigeon lays only one egg, and soft-shelled or sand-shelled eggs appear, it means the feed is inappropriate or the quality of the health sand is too low. At this time, the nutritional value of the feed should be increased, and high-quality health sand should be replaced to improve the productivity of the pigeons.

The above is a brief introduction to the precautions for pigeon breeding. The breeding management of pigeons is very important in pigeon raising. It is also the key to ensuring whether efficient breeding can continue. Therefore, when raising pigeons, everyone should improve the productivity of the pigeons, do a good job in breeding management, and protect their own breeding benefits. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only, and I hope it can help everyone!
