Rearing and Management Methods and Technical Key Points for Young Quail
Quail are now widely farmed in our country, and they are relatively simple to raise. However, quail have different rearing and management methods at each growth stage, especially during the young stage. Young quail are relatively weak, and improper management can easily lead to death, affecting farming profitability. So today, the editor brings you the rearing and management methods for young quail. Let's take a look together!

1. Drinking Water Management
Young quail are small in size and unsteady on their feet. Once wet, they easily lose their balance and fall over, and may be trampled by other quail. Therefore, when providing drinking water, we should use plastic drinking cups as drinking vessels suitable for young quail, so the water will not spill easily and the birds will not get wet. When young quail are about to be placed in the brooding room, let them rest for 1-2 hours first, then provide drinking water. Pay attention to the water temperature; do not feed ice-cold water. Before feeding, it is best to heat and disinfect the water, and make sure every young quail can drink water. Those that show no desire to drink should be given water by hand.
2. Feed Management
When young quail are 25-27 hours after hatching, they can be fed at the appropriate time about 4 hours after their first drink. For the first feed, use cooked eggs or cornmeal. Young quail eat very little for their first feeding, so the amount must be controlled well to prevent feed waste. When feeding, put the feed in the trough and let the young quail eat on their own, making sure every young quail can get feed. After they finish eating, clean up the leftover feed promptly to prevent the young quail from accidentally eating spoiled feed, which can cause gastrointestinal diseases and affect farming profitability.
3. Daily Management
When rearing young quail, observe their growth regularly every day, mainly their activity, eating, and droppings. If problems appear, check promptly and take corresponding measures. Then clean the droppings, wash the water and feed troughs, and disinfect on a regular daily schedule to cut off the transmission routes of diseases, insects, and bacteria. After the sun sets, carry out artificial lighting to ensure sufficient light time every day. Control the temperature well, keep the temperature in the brooding room within the suitable range for young quail, and do good ventilation work to ensure a good growing environment.
4. Timely Beak Trimming
Beak trimming is very important for young quail, because quail have a pecking vice. If their beaks are not trimmed in time, quail will exhibit feather pecking, egg pecking, and similar behaviors. This seriously affects the growth of quail and also increases farming costs. Beak trimming can begin when young quail are half a month to 1 month old. Before beak trimming, add vitamin K, vitamin C, sedatives, and other substances to the feed. Then carry out beak trimming in an environment with a suitable temperature. The beak trimming method is very critical. First, support the lower beak with the index finger, and use a specialized beak trimmer to cut off half of the upper beak, keeping 2/3 of the lower beak. After beak trimming, do good bleeding control work. Do not withhold feed for two days, to prevent the trimmed beak from hitting the bottom of the trough and bleeding.
The above is a brief introduction to the rearing and management techniques for young quail. The rearing and management of young quail have a great impact on the growth of quail in the middle and later stages. Therefore, everyone must do a good job in rearing and management to ensure the healthy growth of quail. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only.
