Marmot Raising and Management Methods

Marmot farming is now gradually developing in our country, and a certain area of artificial breeding has already been established. Its economic value is relatively high, and when it comes to farming, its feeding and management are very important. As long as feeding and management are done well, the incidence of disease in marmots is very low, but marmots have different feeding and management methods at each growth stage. Today, the editor brings you the management methods for each growth stage of marmots. Let's take a look!

1. Management during hibernation

Marmots need to hibernate, generally for about 4-6 months. During hibernation, the marmot's body temperature should be kept at around 5 degrees; if the temperature is too low, it may lead to death. Marmots cannot eat during hibernation, so we should keep the shed temperature at around 10 degrees. It must not be too high; if it is too high, the marmots cannot enter hibernation, which will disrupt their life patterns. During hibernation, the greenhouse can be covered with plastic sheeting, and then a certain amount of rice straw should be placed inside the shed to provide a good hibernation environment for the marmots.

2. Management during the mating period

When marmots mate, attention should be paid to the estrus time. After estrus, put the male and female together in one place promptly for mating. After successful mating, increase the nutrition in the feed and appropriately add carrots to raise the vitamin C content. Then increase the proportion of concentrated feed and buy special milk powder for marmots on the market. This meets the nutritional needs of pregnant marmots and young marmots and improves their growth capacity.

3. Management during the lactation period

The food intake of marmots varies with changes in weather and season, and the daily ration is generally about 320-360 grams. After the female marmot gives birth, the food intake increases appropriately, so during the lactation period we should add one additional feeding. In the evening, feed bait with a high nutritional ratio, and appropriately add lactation-promoting agents to promote the secretion of breast milk in the marmot, ensuring the feed is sufficiently fresh and nutritious.

4. Management during the stationary period

The stationary period refers to the time from after the male marmot mates until before it enters hibernation. During this period, marmots eat relatively little, but their intake gradually increases as the growing days increase. In the stationary period, marmots mainly need to accumulate their own fat reserves to prepare for insulation during hibernation. Therefore, during the stationary period, feed ordinary feed, and it is enough to ensure a sufficient supply of nutrition for the marmots' growth.

5. Management during the young marmot period

Young marmots grow relatively quickly; about 10 months after birth, their body weight can reach about 5 jin. Male marmots also develop faster than females, and the body weight of young marmots is related to the feed and breast milk during the mother's nursing period. Therefore, before the young marmots are two months old, we should add an appropriate amount of soybean products to the feed. When feeding, pay attention to fixed times and fixed amounts. After two months, carry out weaning management and raise them separately. However, because marmots are social animals, young marmots from the same litter should be raised together.

The above is a brief introduction to marmot raising and management methods. Marmots have relatively strong growth capacity. However, because their growth habits differ with changes in growth stage, everyone should still do a good job in feeding and management when farming to ensure the healthy growth of marmots.
