How to Keep Turtles in Winter

Turtles are currently a relatively profitable project in the breeding industry. There are many species of turtles, and many people today also like to keep turtles as pets. Of course, turtles are also eaten quite a lot, as they have better nutritional value, a good market, and high economic returns. When winter comes, turtles enter hibernation, so how should we breed them during this period? Now follow the editor to take a look at how turtles are bred in winter.

1. Water Temperature Management

In the hibernating state, turtles have a certain ability to resist cold, but at the same time they also need to consume a large amount of heat, which shows that they have certain requirements for water temperature. Winter temperatures are relatively low, and when the temperature drops to 13 degrees, turtles will enter hibernation. During this hibernation period, we must also reasonably control the water temperature and must not let the water temperature fall below 10°C. Second, we recommend that small turtles had best not enter hibernation, so the breeding water temperature needs to be adjusted to around 25°C, so that the appetite of small turtles will not decrease. In addition, thin and weak turtles can also be fattened in winter by using heating.

2. Pond Management

There are certain differences between pond management in winter and management in other periods. When winter is approaching, we need to add river sand to the pond, and healthy turtles can then burrow into the river sand by themselves to hibernate, which can provide a very good heat-preservation effect. At the same time, the pond needs to be checked every week to keep the river sand moist, so as to prevent the turtles from dying of dryness during hibernation. Of course, there is another very important point, which is to check the hibernating turtles irregularly, mainly to check their physical condition, whether they are sick, and whether their strength can carry them through the hibernation period.

3. Water Quality Management

Water quality management is very important in every stage of the breeding process. In winter, water does not need to be changed as frequently as at other times, because we need to maintain the water temperature. If the water is changed too frequently in winter, it will cause the water temperature to drop and affect the hibernation and growth of turtles. Generally, the water is changed once every month, and each water change needs to retain one third of the pond water, which can both ensure water quality and maintain water temperature.

4. Feeding Management

Generally, relatively strong turtles will gradually reduce their appetite between September and October, so before winter arrives we need to make sure the turtles can eat their fill. In particular, before entering hibernation they must have a full meal, otherwise the body's heat cannot be maintained until the temperature rises again, and the losses will be very great. Therefore, after entering September, the nutritional needs of turtles need to be adjusted properly. Second, for turtles that do not enter hibernation, we only need to feed them according to the usual feeding methods.

The above is all the content the editor wants to share with everyone today, mainly to tell you how to raise turtles well in winter and some management methods for breeding turtles in winter, hoping to help everyone.
