Pig Manure Earthworm Farming Technique

The earthworm is a creature everyone is very familiar with. Earthworms can loosen the soil and break down harmful substances in the soil, making them a beneficial insect. Earthworms can also be raised on a large scale as a carnivorous feed, and many farmers raise some earthworms to reduce their own feed costs. A technique for raising earthworms with pig manure has now emerged, so how should we use pig manure to raise earthworms? Let's take a look together below!

1. Pig manure fermentation

Pig manure that has not undergone fermentation treatment cannot be used to raise earthworms, because the heat given off by pig manure will burn the earthworm eggs to death and cause the farming to fail. First, the pig manure must be fermented. Mix a manure fermentation agent into the pig manure, keep the moisture at around 65%, and carry out fermentation by controlling the moisture well according to the original water content of the pig manure. Pay attention to the fermentation temperature. When the temperature rises to around 65 degrees, turn the pig manure pile, lower the temperature, and then carry out a second fermentation to prevent nutrients from being destroyed. Cover well with plastic film during fermentation. After about 12-15 days, when it gives off a wine-like aroma or white mycelium appears, you can begin farming.

2. Setting up the farming bed

After the pig manure has been fermented, set up a fermentation bed of a reasonable area according to your farming quantity, and place the pig manure into the farming bed, piling it into a manure heap of about 30 cm. An appropriate amount of cow manure can be added on top of the manure heap, and the cow manure should be raked loose once a day to promote even exposure of the manure to the sun. When the cow manure is 60% dry, you can begin to introduce the earthworm seed stock. Control the farming density well and adjust it appropriately according to seasonal changes; for example, in winter you can raise them somewhat densely, while in summer the farming density should be reduced. After introducing the earthworm seed stock, cover with a layer of rice straw to retain moisture and warmth. If the earthworms show abnormal conditions such as shrinking or dying, pay attention to whether the pig manure was incompletely fermented; if so, it needs to be fermented again.

3. Feed selection

When raising earthworms with pig manure, pig manure is of course certainly the earthworms' main feed, and the quality of the pig manure is directly related to whether the earthworm farming succeeds. We must first control the density of the pig manure well; the density must not be too high, otherwise it will put too much pressure on the earthworms and affect their growth. In addition, the permeability of the pig manure should be strengthened and its water retention capacity improved to ensure the normal growth of the earthworms. Then take other fresh pig manure, mix it together with forage grass, water it thoroughly to ensure the humidity is above 60%, and pile it together for fermentation as reserve feed for the earthworms.

4. Daily management

First, we must control the temperature and humidity of the earthworms' growth well, as changes in temperature and humidity have a very large impact on earthworm growth. The temperature for earthworm growth is around 18 degrees; it must not be lower than 5 degrees at minimum, and must not be higher than 30 degrees at maximum, otherwise it will have a relatively large impact on the earthworms, and in severe cases even lead to death. The humidity should be controlled at around 65%, and the pH value of the pig manure should be moderate; too high or too low will inhibit the growth of the earthworms. In the high-temperature environment of summer, a small watering is also needed once a day. The water must not be polluted, and it should be watered thoroughly to ensure the normal growth of the earthworms.

The above is a brief introduction to the technique of raising earthworms with pig manure. Raising earthworms with pig manure is a very environmentally friendly farming method. It not only solves the problem of pig manure pollution, but the pig manure after farming can also be used as fertilizer. In addition, earthworms can be used as feed, Chinese medicinal materials, bait, and so on. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only.
