How to keep a pig farm warm

With the arrival of the cold winter, temperature control on pig farms has become a worry for many farmers. A suitable growing temperature allows pigs to grow quickly even in winter. There is no shortage of ways to keep pig farms warm in China. Let's take a look at several warming methods together.

1. Place bedding material

As one of China's traditional warming methods, adding bedding material to pig pens has undoubtedly stood the test of history, and to this day many small-scale farmers in China still use this method. There are quite a few suitable materials for bedding, such as dry grass, rice straw, and wood shavings. It prevents pigs from coming into direct contact with the ground and blocks the source of cold, and the bedding also absorbs moisture, keeping the pig pen in a relatively dry environment so that the pigs' surroundings are not very damp and cold, thereby ensuring the temperature of the pig farm.

2. Increase stocking density

This is a relatively practical method for some large-scale pig farms. It costs nothing and the effect is fairly ideal. However, it is generally recommended for pig farms that separate manure or use fermentation beds for raising pigs, as this makes it easier to clean up the manure. After the density is increased, the pigs' range of activity becomes smaller, they come into contact more, and they can huddle together for warmth. This ensures the temperature of the pig farm to a certain extent, and also reduces the area where feed needs to be distributed, which can be considered a certain reduction in the working time of pig farmers.

3. Electric heating

This is a method brought about by technological progress, and it is currently being widely adopted. At present, the more common warming tools are infrared lamps or electric heating panels. Both are placed inside the pig farm and achieve the warming effect by raising the indoor temperature. However, based on the current situation of some users, the service life still needs improvement, and the cost is relatively high. Generally, large-scale pig farms can give it a try.

4. Underfloor heating

As things stand now, underfloor heating is used more in the north and less in the south. There are currently two mainstream types: one heats through coal or similar fuels, and the other heats through hot water or similar means. The effect is relatively long-lasting. Generally, pipes are pre-embedded underground, and then the heating material is added into them. Here I recommend using water heating: first, it is environmentally friendly; second, the cost is relatively low; third, the effect is relatively long-lasting.

The above are several ways to keep a pig farm warm. In fact, many places also have their own unique warming methods. If you have any you would like to share, you can recommend them to us. You are welcome to come and exchange ideas with us more.
