Feeding and management of piglets after weaning

Pig farming goes through various different growth stages, and each stage has different feeding and management methods. Among them, the management of piglets right after weaning is the most important, and also the most troublesome stage of management. Piglets need to change their diet, adapt to the environment, and improve disease resistance; if management is improper, piglets are prone to stress reactions. Below, the editor brings you the feeding and management methods for piglets after weaning. Let's take a look!

1. Control the temperature

Right after weaning, piglets are very weak and highly sensitive to temperature changes. Moreover, piglets' hair and fat have not fully grown out, so their body temperature is low. Before weaning, they could rely on staying close to the sow to keep warm, but after weaning, if the temperature is not properly controlled, piglets are very prone to catching colds. Therefore, after weaning, the first thing to do is adjust the temperature, which must not be lower than 25°C. If it is winter, try to prepare a warming box, and the temperature difference between day and night must not be too large, otherwise the piglets will find it hard to adapt and will develop stress reactions.

2. Reasonable feeding

At weaning or after weaning, piglets are not yet very well adapted to feed. So after weaning, we should first feed them some wet feed, then gradually adjust over time so that the piglets have a dietary transition period. Feed them about 3-4 times a day, and pay attention to the interval between each feeding and the piglets' eating time; do not let the piglets eat for too long, otherwise it will reduce their appetite. Also, when feeding, pay attention to increasing the brightness, as a bright environment can improve the piglets' appetite. And gradually increase the dry feed; after a period of time they will adapt to the dry feed and transition successfully.

3. Drinking water management

Drinking water for piglets is quite important; do not feed them unclean or contaminated water. Also, we should adjust the water temperature according to changes in weather and season. For example, in winter when the temperature is very low, make sure the drinking water temperature is not lower than 10°C. Otherwise, piglets are very prone to catching colds and developing some gastrointestinal diseases. Also, a small amount of baking soda can be added to the piglets' first drink when they start eating; baking soda helps improve gastrointestinal function and promotes peristalsis and digestion. It is best to disinfect the drinking water before each watering to prevent problems in piglets caused by drinking water.

4. Daily management

If you want piglets to grow strong and increase the survival rate, you must do a good job in daily management and train the piglets to defecate. When the piglets are resting, scatter a little feed on the place where they rest, because piglets will not defecate on feed, and then the piglets will slowly look for a place without feed, and over time they will naturally form the habit. During the piglet stage, we should also regularly observe their growth, eating and feces, and handle any abnormalities in time to prevent diseases from occurring and causing piglet death.

The above are the feeding and management methods for piglets after weaning. The period after weaning is the most difficult one to raise in the entire breeding period. Improper management may lead to piglet death, and even if they do not die, many problems will appear in later growth, such as difficulty in gaining weight and the occurrence of diseases. So everyone must manage them well! That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only. Thank you for your reading and support.
