Severe bloating can cause suffocation and death; how to prevent dairy cow bloating in summer

In summer, dairy cows eat more young, tender, juicy green grass, which easily leads to rumen bloating. The onset is acute and gradually worsens, and severely affected cows may die of suffocation.

Oral drenching with medication:Take half a jin of garlic, peel and crush it, add 1 jin of vinegar and 2 liang (a large half cup) of baijiu, mix with two jin of 40°C warm water, and give it as a single drench.

Exercise therapy:Lead the bloated dairy cow to a slope of about 25 degrees, with the cow's head facing uphill, pry open the cow's mouth, coat the surface of the tongue with salt, and insert a wooden stick about 5 cm in diameter crosswise to help the dairy cow stretch its neck and release gas, and massage the rumen.

Surgical therapy:Use a trocar to puncture and release gas from the highest point of the swelling at the midpoint between the coxal tuber and the horizontal line of the last rib. Release the gas slowly to prevent a sudden drop in the dairy cow's abdominal pressure.

Intravenous drip:500 ml of 10% saline + 40 ml of gentamicin, 500 ml of 25% glucose + 40 ml of vitamin C, 1000 ml of 10% calcium gluconate, 500 ml of sodium bicarbonate.

Prevention methods:1. Prevent dairy cows from eating too much green, juicy feed, and graze as little as possible on grassland after rain or with heavy dew; 2. Do a good job of feed storage, and strictly prohibit feeding moldy or spoiled feed to dairy cows; 3. Soybean cake-type feed is best soaked in boiling water before feeding.
