Ten Ways to Boost Egg Production and Profits in Laying Hens in Summer and Autumn
1. Prevent heatstroke and lower the temperature: The suitable temperature for laying hens is 13-25°C, with 20°C being optimal. In hot seasons, the chicken house must be protected from heat and cooled down. Build the chicken house in a cool, insulated, well-ventilated spot facing south, and place more basins filled with cool water inside the chicken house. Spray cool water at noon to lower the temperature, keep the chicken house well ventilated, and maintain a suitable temperature to increase the laying rate.

2. Trim feathers to dissipate heat: In hot weather, cut off the feathers on the chest, abdomen, inner thighs and under the wings of laying hens, leaving 1.5cm of stubble, to increase body heat dissipation, reduce physical exertion, improve appetite and raise the laying rate by 10%.
3. Install air ducts: Install an air duct that supplies cold air on top of each chicken cage to lower the temperature of the hens' heads and increase the laying rate by 10%.
4. Feed tea water: Soak tea leaves in boiling water for half an hour, then take the tea water with the leaves and feed it to the chickens several times a day. It can clear heat and remove dampness, promote salivation and appetite, prevent and treat gastrointestinal and other diseases, and increase the laying rate by 10%.
5. Feed vitamin C: In hot, high temperatures, chickens' demand for vitamin C increases. Adding vitamin C to the daily ration can lower body temperature, strengthen the chickens' ability to cope with heat stress and resist disease, reduce feed consumption, increase the effectiveness of calcium in the bones, and raise the laying rate. According to experiments, at a high temperature of 34°C, adding 200 mg of vitamin C per kg of daily ration for laying hens increased the laying rate by 9%; adding 500 mg increased the laying rate by 12%.
6. Feed baking soda: Adding an appropriate amount of baking soda to chicken feed can improve the palatability and quality of the feed, and can also neutralize stomach acid and increase feed utilization and energy conversion rates. According to experiments, adding 5 grams of baking soda to the daily ration of laying hens can increase the laying rate by 5-10%, and also increase eggshell hardness and reduce substandard eggs.
7. Feed celery: Celery contains vitamins and trace elements and can clear heat and cool the body. Laying hens that eat celery have their laying rate increased by 15-20%. Feeding celery to chickens: (1) Feed each laying hen celery 3 times a week, 50 grams each time; feed the celery leaves separately, and after chopping the celery stalks, mix them into the compound feed. (2) Boil 1 kg of celery in about 2 kg of water for about 15 minutes, then take the juice and let the laying hens drink it.
8. Drink mung bean soup: Mung beans can clear heat and remove toxins, and prevent heatstroke and lower the temperature. Take an appropriate amount of mung beans, wash them, add 10 times their volume of water, and boil until the skins come off. After cooling, let the chickens eat the beans and drink the soup several times a day to increase the laying rate by 10%.
9. Feed more green, succulent forage: Green, succulent forage is cool and tasty, rich in vitamins, and can clear heat, prevent heatstroke, promote salivation, moisten dryness and strengthen the stomach. According to experiments, adding 50-60 grams of watermelon rind and carrots to each laying hen's daily ration increased the laying rate by 5-10%.
10. Provide careful care and management, and prevent disease. The chicken house must be disinfected regularly. Remove droppings, maintain good daily hygiene, feed carefully, and strictly guard against disease entering through the mouth.
