Growing methods and precautions for Frithia pulchra

Frithia pulchra is a succulent with a rather unusual shape. Its leaves are club-shaped, the whole plant looks quite compact, and the leaf tips are transparent, somewhat like Haworthia cooperi. On top of that, this plant can also bloom, so it is highly sought after and often used to make exquisite bonsai. Below, Qinnong Net introduces the growing methods for Frithia pulchra.

I. Light

Frithia pulchra is a plant that quite likes light, but paradoxically, it cannot be left in the sun for long periods. Except in summer, the other seasons are its growing seasons, and at this time you should ensure it gets about 4 hours of light per day, with sufficient diffused light the rest of the time. This both meets its light needs and prevents its leaves from being scorched. In summer, place Frithia pulchra on a windowsill or balcony beyond the reach of strong light, and ensure good ventilation to avoid root rot caused by excessively high temperatures.

II. Watering

Frithia pulchra can be watered by the immersion method, supplying water from the bottom of the pot with the water level not exceeding 2/3 of the pot, for about 15 seconds. However, do not use the immersion method too often; once a month is enough.

As for timing watering, you can watch the plant's leaf surface: if the leaves show wrinkling, water promptly, and soon after watering the leaves will gradually recover. By keeping a rough record of the interval between waterings, you can correctly grasp the watering cycle.

III. Fertilizing

Fertilizing Frithia pulchra can be done together with watering. Dissolving granular fertilizer in water, or mixing in liquid fertilizer, and pouring it directly onto the soil are both feasible, but note that the concentration must not be too high each time; fertilizing once every two months is enough.

IV. Precautions

When watering Frithia pulchra by the immersion method, if the potting soil has poor permeability, it is best to immerse only until half moist. Also, do not water on rainy days, and do not let it get rained on; move it indoors promptly for care.

Frithia pulchra should get at least 5 hours of light per day. If there is a stretch of cloudy and rainy days, pay attention to ventilation, or use artificial incandescent lamps for supplemental light.
