What to Do When Golden Pothos Leaves Have Yellow Spots

Golden pothos is a very popular foliage plant right now. It has long, pointed leaves, each one like a palm-leaf fan, and it looks beautiful once it grows up. It can be kept indoors in the living room as a potted plant, and golden pothos is also quite good at purifying the air, which has attracted many growers to cultivate it. So during cultivation, what should we do when we come across leaves with yellow spots? Below, Shuaishuai will explain the causes of yellow spots on golden pothos leaves and the solutions!

I. Causes of Yellow Spots on Golden Pothos Leaves

1. Improper watering

If the newly grown golden pothos leaves are slightly dark yellow and the stems are very thin, then it means too much water was given. If the edges of the leaves turn yellow and the yellowing gradually spreads toward the middle, the old leaves will slowly turn yellow and finally drop off, while the new leaves remain relatively normal - this is caused by too little watering.

2. Improper lighting

If the edges of the leaves are dry, withered and shrunken, and small yellow dots appear on the sun-facing part of the leaves, then it is probably caused by sunlight that is too strong. If it is placed in a dark area for a long time, it cannot get enough light, which will affect the plant's photosynthesis. Once photosynthesis is insufficient, it will lack chlorophyll, causing the leaves to turn yellow and develop yellow spots.

3. Insufficient nutrients

If, when we fertilize, the proportion of fertilizer is much greater than that of water, the leaves will turn yellow, the newly grown leaves will appear yellow-brown, and the old leaves will become scorched yellow and even drop off. If we forget to add fertilizer, the tender leaves will be yellow-green. If nitrogen is lacking, the leaves will grow very small. If friends live in the north, the soil there is on the alkaline side, which also affects its growth and will cause an imbalance in the acid-base balance within the leaves, leading to yellow spots on the leaves.

4. Anthracnose

Plants can hardly escape the torment of diseases. Anthracnose is a disease caused by a kind of bacterium. This disease will make many small yellow spots grow on the leaves, usually along the edges of the leaves.

II. Preventive measures

1. We should often spray water around the leaves to keep them moist at all times, so the leaves will not lack water and turn yellow. Keep the temperature of the growing environment at around 20 degrees. In winter, water only after the potting soil has dried out.

2. Do not place it under the air outlet of an air conditioner, because that consumes moisture the most. Also do not let it be exposed to the scorching sun, and even more so do not place it in a dark area. It can be moved to a balcony or another area.

3. If there is too much fertilizer, fertilization should be stopped immediately, the plant's root system should be dug out and then washed clean. If there is too little fertilizer, it will cause the soil to become hard and compacted, so some gongshui should be added. Usually, fertilize frequently, mainly with nitrogen fertilizer. If the soil is on the alkaline side, fermented rice washing water can be used to water it.

4. If it is pests or diseases, cut off all the diseased branches and then spray the corresponding insecticide. Spray two to three times every week.

The above are the causes of yellow spots on golden pothos leaves and the solutions. Generally, yellowing leaves are caused by diseases and lack of nutrients - that is, proper methods were not used during cultivation. Some people's plants are caused by insufficient water, so it is enough to grasp these few key points well.
