Scorpion Breeding Methods

The scorpion is a creature with very strong toxicity, and at the same time its medicinal value is also very high, so it has become known to everyone as a special breeding project. The products processed from scorpions have considerable economic value, but not many people breed scorpions, because most people are still afraid of the scorpion's toxicity, so basically only a minority of people make money from it. So how should scorpions be bred to make money while ensuring safety? Let us take a look at the scorpion breeding methods below.

1. Breeding site construction

Scorpions generally live in relatively damp places, while at the same time their resting places must be dry, so the breeding site must have a clear distinction between dry and wet areas. Because the breeding methods differ, some of the equipment and tools in the breeding site will also differ to a certain extent. Basin culture, box culture, pond culture, pit culture, rack culture and wall culture can be used respectively, and the room should also be equipped with heating equipment such as coal stoves, hot walls, electric heaters and water heaters, then seal the windows with film, or use plastic greenhouses for breeding. In that case the greenhouse must be tightly sealed, and windbreak facilities must also be set up.

2. Selection of breeder scorpions

When selecting breeder scorpions, we should pay attention to some detailed issues. First of all, obtain breeding stock from as nearby as possible, because long-distance introduction of scorpions may cause them to be unable to adapt to the local environment, temperature, humidity and other factors, leading to death, so obtaining breeding stock from nearby can provide a guarantee in this respect. Secondly, choose relatively docile and robust scorpions with no damage to the surface or internal body and no pests or diseases as breeder scorpions. At the same time, there is one more point to note: the color of the skin surface of the breeder scorpions should be relatively uniform.

3. Breeding density

The breeding density of scorpions must be reasonable. Under normal circumstances, the number of male scorpions should not be too large, otherwise it will affect the normal reproduction of female scorpions. The breeding density of young scorpions should also not be too high. We all know that scorpions have relatively strong attacking ability, and when the density is too high, they can easily kill each other. So normally, no more than 500 female scorpions should be bred per sq m, no more than 4,000 newly born scorpions, no more than 3,000 slightly older young scorpions, and no more than 2,000 adult scorpions. Therefore, group breeding should be carried out reasonably.

4. Feed and feeding

In the process of raising scorpions, the breeds of feed used for breeding must not be single. However, the main feed is still yellow mealworms, followed by pests such as ground beetles, cockroaches, mosquitoes, flies, spiders and earthworms, which are also food sources for scorpions. At the same time, scorpions also like to eat alkaline soil and bran. General scorpion feed can be captured by light trapping, and then when feeding, the meat should be chopped up, wrapped into small packets with plastic sheeting, and evenly placed in the breeding site. Then adjust the number of feedings reasonably according to temperature changes. When the temperature is above 20°C, feed about once every four days, and when the temperature is below 15°C, feed only about once a week. At the same time, it is also necessary to note that they need more drinking water, and an appropriate amount of watermelon rind, vegetable leaves and feed with higher juice content can also be fed.

5. Daily management

First of all, in daily management, we should regulate the temperature in the breeding site well. During the normal growth and development of scorpions, the most suitable temperature is around 28 to 30°C. At this temperature, scorpions grow faster and need to intake more food. Secondly, the humidity in the breeding site also needs to be regulated. Generally, the humidity is best controlled at around 80 percent. In addition, the temperature rise in the breeding site also needs to be cleaned up. At the same time, when providing water, each time a sponge should be used to absorb enough water and placed in the breeding site, and an appropriate amount of antibiotics can be added to the water to regulate the scorpions' constitution. Finally, it is necessary to avoid the harm of flour mites to scorpions, otherwise the losses will be severe.
