Causes and Prevention of Yellowing Leaves on Gardenia

Gardenia is a relatively common flower, grown by quite a few flower farmers. Since it is mainly sold as an ornamental plant, its appearance needs to be taken seriously, so to some extent the problem of yellowing gardenia leaves has a big impact on flower farmers. Let's take a look together below.

1. Water

The amount of water has a big effect on gardenia leaves. Yellow leaves caused by water will show differently depending on how much water there is. With too much water, the leaves appear a watery yellow with a darker color, while those caused by lack of water are dry yellow with a lighter color, looking very thin and frail. In this case, just control the watering well. It is recommended that flower farmers manage gardenias in this condition separately until they recover, then send them back to the flower shed.

2. Light

Many flower farmers now build cultivation sheds with good light transmission for better lighting, but they do not do enough in terms of shading. Gardenia is not suited to prolonged direct sunlight; generally, indirect sunlight gives the best results. If you find that the leaves tend to turn yellow after being exposed for a period of time, or turn yellow after long-term exposure for a certain period, then it is best to first move them to a place beyond direct sunlight and observe for a while. Then install shading equipment in the cultivation shed to prevent them from withering.

3. Fertilizer

Fertilizer is also one of the reasons that cause gardenia leaves to turn yellow. Because gardenia's demand for fertilizer is not so obvious, flower farmers may use improper amounts when fertilizing. Too much fertilizer will cause seedling burn, while too little fertilizer will show as the plant withering. In this case, the cultivation soil needs to be replaced; if it is a lack of fertilizer, then it is not necessary, because when fertilizer has accumulated, it is very difficult for the gardenia to absorb all the excess residual fertilizer.

Gardenia is a relatively fragile plant, so daily management requires flower farmers to be careful. For situations that have occurred once, everyone should best take precautions to avoid a second occurrence. Generally, yellowing leaves do not have a big impact on the plant, and timely adjustment is enough, but if it is caused by disease, flower farmers should pay attention.
