Anchovy Breeding Methods and Key Technical Points
Anchovy is a fish species that combines economic value and ornamental value, and it is widely farmed in the South China Sea region of China. Because the industry chain is relatively small, many fish farmers do not know how to breed anchovies. Let's learn together below how to breed them.

1. Temperature control
Water temperature is a factor that deserves great attention for anchovies. Because the anchovy's place of origin has a tropical environment, the water temperature at the selected site must be high. The most suitable water temperature is controlled at around 18° to 25°. The lowest air temperature anchovies can adapt to is around 10℃, the normal growth temperature is above 18℃, and the maximum temperature should preferably not exceed 35℃. Too high a temperature leads to frequent fish diseases, and the same is true if it is too low; at the same time, too low a temperature can also cause death.
2. Fish pond management
When building fish tanks, they should be divided into two types: fry ponds and adult fish ponds. One adult fish pond can be divided into 4-6 fry ponds. Generally, fry ponds are about 1.2 m deep, with about 0.8-1 m of water added, while the water depth of adult fish ponds is controlled at 1.5 m. The fish ponds should be similar to other normal fish ponds. Before putting in fry, disinfect first, then clean them thoroughly, expose them to the sun for about a week, then add water and let it settle for about 1 day, and only then can the fish be put into the pond.
3. Feed selection
Anchovy is a relatively omnivorous fish, so there are many things it can be fed. If you plan to sell them as ornamental fish, feed mainly with feed; if you plan to sell them as food fish, you need to regularly feed some insect types rich in nutrients and protein. The more common feeding insects include Artemia larvae, red worms, water fleas, etc. If conditions permit, earthworms can also be chopped into small pieces and fed, which is a relatively high-quality feed. If feeding with commercial feed, try to use pelleted feed as the main type.
4. Feeding
Anchovy is a small-sized fish, so it does not need to be fed too much each time, but it should be fed multiple meals. Generally, feed 3-4 times a day, and appropriately reduce by one time in winter. Each feeding should last about 15-20 minutes per 20 sq m, or stop when very few fish come to eat the bait that has been put in. If feeding insects, once every 2 days is enough. The insects fed must undergo deworming treatment and disease prevention treatment to prevent infecting the anchovies.
