Growing Methods and Care Tips for Orange Jessamine
Orange jessamine (Murraya paniculata) is a small tree that can grow to over eight meters tall. It thrives in warm places. In China, orange jessamine is basically grown in Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan, Guangzhou, Hainan and other places, where the climate is relatively mild and meets the needs of orange jessamine growth. So today let us learn the simple growing methods for orange jessamine.

1. Land preparation and fertilizing
Orange jessamine is not demanding about the soil of the planting site. Generally, soil rich in humus, or loose sandy soil with sufficient fertility, is enough, and the planting site is best in a sunny area with relatively abundant light. When preparing the land, plow as deep as 20 to 30 cm, clear away impurities in the field, fill in the uneven spots in the field, break up the soil as finely as possible, and finally make beds about 1.5 m wide, spread sufficient base fertilizer, and then you can wait to sow.
2. Scientific sowing
The three most common methods of growing orange jessamine are seed sowing, layering and grafting. Seed sowing can be done from March to May and from September to October, while layering is generally done in May and June, and grafting is chosen in spring when vitality is strongest. No matter which growing method is used, we need to pay attention to planting density. Generally, planting is done at a spacing of about 15 to 20 cm per plant, and when transplanting later, the row spacing and plant spacing are best both about 50 cm, so that orange jessamine can grow more vigorously.
3. Fertilizer and water management
Watering and fertilizing orange jessamine should be done together. Orange jessamine has a certain drought tolerance. Generally, it is enough to keep a certain amount of moisture in the field; as long as the field soil is not too dry, it can survive. But waterlogging must not occur in the field, otherwise the plant roots will rot, causing irreparable losses. During the growing period, we mainly use nitrogen fertilizer for orange jessamine, and can supplement it with an appropriate amount of NPK compound fertilizer, generally fertilizing once about every half month, and doing so together with watering, which can dilute the nutrient concentration and let them absorb it better. Next, during its flowering period, foliar fertilizer should be sprayed in time. Finally, after the flowers fall, maintenance fertilizer should be applied in a pile.
4. Pruning and shaping
The branches and leaves of orange jessamine grow relatively fast, and we all know that in order to sell orange jessamine for a good price, its tree shape is very important, so we should often prune and shape orange jessamine, so that when they grow up they will also be very beautiful, and thus sell better and be loved by more people. Pruning is generally done in spring, mainly cutting off weaker branches, diseased branches and overly lush branches, so that the ornamental value of orange jessamine is also higher.
5. Points to note
When planting orange jessamine on a large scale, there are many things to pay attention to. First, we should pay attention to the permeability of the soil at the planting site, and loosen the soil and weed the field from time to time, which enhances the permeability of the field soil while also reducing nutrient consumption and promoting the growth of the orange jessamine root system and the absorption of nutrients. Second, for growing orange jessamine, we should as far as possible use organic fertilizer or farmyard manure, use less chemical fertilizer, and at the same time must not apply nitrogen fertilizer alone. Then, after the weather turns cool, we should reduce the number of waterings and stop fertilizing at the same time. Finally, orange jessamine has weak cold resistance, so after winter begins we should build greenhouses to keep it warm or use other means for temperature control, preferably keeping it at around 20 to 25 degrees, so that its growth and development will not be affected.
