Artificial Breeding Methods for Cuttlefish

Cuttlefish is also called squid, because when it encounters danger it sprays a black, ink-like substance, so people later called it cuttlefish. It is a relatively special fish that lives in the ocean, but because of its high nutritional value, it has been heavily hunted by people living near the sea. After years of research, there has now been new progress in cuttlefish breeding technology. Today let us take a look together at the artificial breeding methods for cuttlefish.

1. Breeding Preparation

Cuttlefish breeding today is basically mainly cage culture, so before breeding we must choose a suitable sea area, and next choose cages suitable for breeding cuttlefish. It is best to choose cages with relatively soft material but which are very sturdy, then disinfect the cages, then lay the cages in the selected sea area in a certain order and at different depths and sizes and fix them in place, and finally install red tide alarms near the laid cages and build an observation platform nearby from which the rise and fall of the seawater can be watched.

2. Fry Selection

The selection of cuttlefish fry is also a very important top ten, because cuttlefish resources are already relatively scarce now, so the cost of purchasing fry is already on the high side, so we must reduce breeding costs to the greatest extent. We should choose cuttlefish fry that are relatively uniform in body size, robust, relatively active, and strong in reproductive capacity. Such fry will be easier to keep alive, and their yield will also be higher. At the same time, when transporting the fry, attention should be paid to adding water and there should be an oxygenator, and if conditions permit, the water should be changed, which can reduce damage to the fry during transport.

3. Fry Stocking

When stocking cuttlefish, attention should be paid: first, the cuttlefish fry need to be disinfected, because the purchased cuttlefish fry may have carried some bacteria and so on during transport or otherwise, which would affect the growth and health of the cuttlefish and infect other cuttlefish that have not been infected, and the loss from this is relatively large. Then we must stock them at a reasonable density, controlling the number per mu at around one thousand one hundred. Finally, when stocking, it is necessary to appropriately stock some other species of fish for rearing, so that the benefits can be maximized.

4. Feeding Management

The feeding management of cuttlefish is very strict. It clearly specifies the number of feedings and the bait, so as to ensure the normal growth of the cuttlefish. Generally under Qingkang conditions, it is enough to feed twice a day. Next, the feed given is mainly newly caught small fish and organisms such as tadpoles. At other times the cuttlefish will feed on plankton in the water. At the same time, the quality of the feed must be ensured, and spoiled or inferior feed must be completely avoided. The amount fed should mainly be based on the specific water temperature, air temperature, and other specific conditions for feeding, and it should not be too much or too little.

5. Daily Management

Cuttlefish have relatively strict requirements for their living environment, so in the usual daily management process, we must irregularly clean the impurities and mud and dirt in the cages, and carry out disinfection. Basically, cleaning and disinfection must be carried out once every ten days to half a month. Next, in ordinary feeding, attention should be paid to water level management, and always pay attention to weather changes so that cage adjustments can be made in time. Then it is necessary to irregularly inspect the environment around the sea area, and check whether the water quality of the sea area meets the standards for cuttlefish life, and carry out water quality purification in time. Finally, when feeding, some antibiotics for disease resistance and enhancing immunity can be added to the feed for feeding, which can reduce the occurrence of diseases to a certain extent.
