Detailed Explanation of Wasp Breeding Methods and Technical Points
Wasp is also called hornet, and some people also call it wasp or horse wasp. Because wasps have extremely high economic benefits and broad market prospects, and their use value is also very good now, many breeders have appeared who make a living specifically by breeding wasps. So how are wasps bred? Today let us learn together the methods for breeding wasps.

1. Breeding preparation
Wasps are actually very dangerous creatures, so full preparation must be made before breeding. First, we need to make the wasp cage for breeding well. Generally, it can be made of wood or iron wire mesh. Each hive must have a certain activity space, so the length, width, and height should be at least about 30 to 40 cm. Second, a bee shed must be built well. A glass greenhouse, factory building, or specially built bee shed can be used. The area of the bee shed needs to be determined according to the number of wasps being bred. Finally, use wood to build the breeding box. It is necessary to ensure sufficient activity space, and at the same time make hooks and movable doors well, with the surroundings needing to be enclosed with mesh gauze.
2. Purchase of bee colonies
Wasps can be introduced by oneself, that is, going to places with wasps in September and October each year to catch wasps. However, the risk level is relatively high this way, and the captured wasps are also relatively easy to injure. So if breeding wasps now, you can go to specialized farms to collect bee species, but it is best to choose bee colonies in April and May. Bee colonies selected this way are relatively stable and very easy to keep alive. When selecting bees, we should observe at the entrance of the hive to see the entry and exit of worker bees and the proportion of pollen collected. Then open the box door and see whether their reaction is relatively fierce or gentle. Next, observe the condition of the queen bee and whether the egg-laying ability meets the standard. Finally, observe the arrangement of the wasp colony and choose the best colony for rearing.
3. Feeding management
Feeding attention is divided into three methods: supplementary feeding, reward feeding, and pollen feeding. Generally, when nectar sources are relatively sufficient, supplementary feeding is not needed. It is only needed when nectar sources are lacking. Usually, honey plus warm water or white sugar dissolved in hot water is used for feeding. Reward feeding is feeding management carried out during the wasp reproduction period and the bee production period. During this period, feeding mainly relies on manual feeding, generally using honey liquid or syrup once every other day. Pollen feeding is mainly to supplement protein. Pollen can be used for feeding, and soybean powder can also be used as a substitute.
4. Daily management
In ordinary daily management, we should pay attention to the quality of drinking water and the amount of water. At the same time, place a wet towel on the water container, and a little salt can also be added to the water, which can play an anti-inflammatory role. The bee cage should be placed in a place with good ventilation. The humidity and temperature in the cage should not be too high. Finally, attention should also be paid to the sanitation management of the breeding site, with irregular cleaning and disinfection.
5. Precautions
There are still some points requiring our attention when breeding wasps. For example, when raising them artificially, brown sugar cannot be used for feeding, because brown sugar is relatively slow to absorb and digest, which has a great impact on the growth of wasps. Second, the breeding environment should remain quiet, and at the same time stay away from crowds as well as flower planting areas or crop planting areas. Also, attention should be paid to the harm to wasps from insects, mice, and so on. Finally, management during the overwintering period of the colony should be strengthened.
